Key Differences

The Audi A6 Avant offers significantly more cargo length: with the seats folded down it is 20.1 in longer (+35%) and with the front seats upright it is also 20.1 in longer (+77%) than the VW T-Cross. The VW T-Cross has a considerably greater depth between the loading edge and trunk floor: plus 5.5 in (+700%).

Additionally, the loading edge of the T-Cross is 2.8 in higher (+11%) above the ground than that of the A6. The width at the narrowest point is the same, the width of the A6's trunk opening is only slightly larger (+2.4 in / 6%) and the opening height only minimally higher (+1.2 in / 4%) – these values are understated as they are below a 10% difference.

Implications for Usability

For long or bulky items, the A6 Avant is clearly advantageous: the significantly longer cargo area (both with folded seats and with the front seats upright) allows for accommodating longer furniture, slats, or sports equipment and facilitates orderly stacking of luggage.

Due to the overall lower loading edge height of the A6, lifting heavy loads is also more ergonomic and loading and unloading is easier.

The higher trunk floor and higher loading edge of the VW T-Cross mean two things in practice: on one hand, a deeper "well" is created in the cargo area that can secure smaller or irregularly shaped items more safely; on the other hand, the higher loading edge increases the effort required to lift heavy loads into the vehicle.

Combined with the shorter cargo length, the T-Cross is less suitable for long items or large amounts of luggage but is well suited for everyday use and transporting smaller, relatively compact loads that benefit from the deeper trunk well.

In summary: Those who regularly transport long or many items benefit from the Audi A6 Avant (longer cargo area, lower loading edge).

Those who mainly want to securely store smaller, lower-sitting loads and value more compact vehicle dimensions can manage well with the VW T-Cross but must accept the higher lifting effort.
