Key Differences

The BMW i4 offers a significantly longer cargo space when folding down all seats: +15 in (28%) compared to the VW Polo. Even with the front seats upright, the i4 is noticeably longer: +12.6 in (48%). The depth of the trunk (loading edge to trunk floor) is also greater in the i4: +0.8 in (25%).

In contrast, the narrowest width inside the cabin is wider in the Polo: +5.5 in (16%) compared to the i4. Smaller differences under 10% include the higher trunk opening of the Polo (+0.8 in / 3%) and the slightly larger opening width of the i4 (+0.8 in / 2%); the loading edge height is the same for both models.

Impact on Usability

The significantly greater loading length and depth of the BMW i4 make it more practical for long items (e.g., skis, slats, longer luggage) and transport tasks requiring the rear seats to be folded down. For vacation luggage or longer furniture pieces, the i4 therefore offers clear advantages.

The VW Polo, on the other hand, scores with more lateral free width at the narrowest point, which facilitates loading wide or bulky items (wide boxes, strollers, bulky cartons).

The slightly higher opening of the Polo helps when inserting tall items but is only a minor advantage. Since the loading edges are identically high, the physical lifting or setting down when loading is comparable in both models.
