Trunk comparison: BMW iX1 vs Seat Tarraco

Comparison of trunk dimensions for the BMW iX1 and Seat Tarraco

Key Differences

The SEAT Tarraco offers significantly more cargo space than the BMW iX1 in several areas.

Particularly noticeable is the longer cargo length: with the seats folded down, the Tarraco is 9.8 in (15%) longer, and with the first row of seats upright, it is even 8.7 in (24%) longer than the iX1. The trunk opening on the Tarraco is 4.3 in (15%) higher, and the depth between the loading edge and the trunk floor is 1.6 in (200%) greater on the Tarraco.

Other dimensions such as loading edge height (+1.2 in / 4%), narrowest width (+0.4 in / 1%), and opening width (+2.4 in / 6%) differ only marginally.

Implications for Usability

The significantly greater loading length (±22–9.8 in) makes the Tarraco practically better suited for long items like slatted frames, parquet packages, or skis, both in everyday use (front seats upright) and with seats folded down.

The higher trunk opening increases the pass-through height for bulky, tall items (e.g., boxes, furniture parts) and simplifies fitting voluminous cargo.

The considerably greater depth from the cargo floor to the loading edge means the Tarraco offers more interior space below the loading edge — this increases usable volume but can also mean that heavy items need to be lifted deeper when loading or pulled out later.

Combined with the slightly higher loading edge (+1.2 in), lifting heavy loads in the Tarraco is somewhat less familiar but often balanced out by the larger interior area.

Since width and opening width differ only slightly, both models are similar in handling narrow or wide items here.

In summary: Those who frequently transport long or tall cargo (craftsman supplies, furniture, family equipment) noticeably benefit from the Tarraco; those mainly carrying more compact, lighter cargo have a comparably practical solution with the iX1.
