Key Differences

The Mercedes-Benz GLB offers slightly more cargo space overall: with the seats folded down, the trunk is 4.3 in longer (+7%) and with the first row of seats upright, the trunk is 0.8 in longer (+2%) than in the BMW X2. The width at the narrowest point is 2 in wider (+5%) in the GLB, and the width of the trunk opening is 2.8 in (+7%) wider than in the X2.

Significantly larger differences are found in trunk height, trunk depth, and loading edge height: The height of the GLB's trunk opening is 8.7 in higher (+33%), the depth of the trunk (loading edge to floor) is 1.2 in greater (+33%), and the loading edge of the BMW X2 sits 3.1 in higher above the road (+11%) than that of the GLB.

Impact on Usability

The significantly higher trunk opening of the GLB makes loading large or tall items (suitcases, boxes, strollers in upright position) easier: less edge contact, more vertical clearance, and less maneuvering when lifting in.

The greater depth means heavy or long items can be pushed further back, making the load more stable and better distributed.

The higher loading edge of the BMW X2, on the other hand, results in noticeably more lifting effort when loading: heavy luggage, groceries, or a stroller must be lifted higher, which makes handling less comfortable for older people or with frequent loading.

In situations where ground clearance or "inserting" bulky items matters, the GLB is therefore more practical.

The smaller width and length differences (≤7%) have only a minor effect on everyday usability; they may be relevant in individual cases when packing particularly wide boxes but are overall secondary compared to the three highlighted differences.
