Key Differences

The Citroën C3 offers a longer cargo area with the seats folded down: +7.9 in (17%) in favor of the C3. In everyday use with the front seats upright, however, the VW Caddy Wagon has significantly more space: +15.7 in (60%) longer trunk.

The trunk opening of the Caddy is both higher and wider than that of the C3: +13.8 in (44%) opening height and +9.8 in (28%) opening width.

The narrowest trunk width is also larger in the Caddy: +6.7 in (18%). Two points stand out for the Citroën: the depth of the trunk (distance from loading edge to trunk floor) is +8.3 in (1050%) greater, and the loading edge itself is +8.3 in (37%) higher above the road than in the VW Caddy.

Impact on Usability

For long loads with the seats fully folded down, the Citroën C3 has the advantage: the 17% greater length allows longer items without additional adjustments.

However, the higher loading edge in the C3 (+8.3 in, 37%) makes lifting heavy or bulky loads into the vehicle more difficult, and the greater depth between loading edge and trunk floor (+8.3 in) means the cargo sits more "in a tub" — this helps to secure or sink items but makes overcoming the loading edge more challenging at first glance.

The VW Caddy Wagon is better suited for everyday wide and tall cargo: the significantly higher opening height (+13.8 in, 44%) and the larger opening width as well as width at the narrowest point (+9.8 in / 28% and +6.7 in / 18%) make loading and unloading boxes, furniture parts, or pallets easier and allow bulky items without folding down the front seats.

The lower loading edge reduces the effort required to lift heavy loads.

In summary: Those who occasionally transport very long items and can fully fold down the rear seat benefit from the Citroën C3’s maximum cargo space.

Those who frequently transport wide, tall, or heavy cargo, often drive with upright seating, or need practical, easy access to the cargo area are better served by the VW Caddy Wagon.
