Trunk comparison: Ford Focus vs Mercedes Benz GLE

Main Differences
In direct comparison, it is especially noticeable that the trunk of the Mercedes-Benz GLE is significantly longer when all seats are folded down:
compared to the Ford Focus. Even with the first row of seats upright, the GLE offers more length:
. Another major difference concerns the interior depth between the loading edge and the trunk floor: the Ford Focus has a significantly greater depth here, namely
compared to the GLE. Additionally, the loading edge of the GLE is higher above the road:
compared to the Focus. Smaller differences exist in width (at the narrowest point +1.6 in, opening width +3.9 in in favor of the GLE) and in the height of the trunk opening (+0.4 in in favor of the GLE), these are below or around 10% and less defining.
Impact on Usability
The greater length of the GLE (both with folded seats and with the first row upright) makes it significantly more practical for long items such as slats, long furniture parts, or skis: such items can be transported more easily and without awkward positioning in the GLE. The additional opening width of 3.9 in also allows wider cargo to pass more easily through the rear opening. The much greater interior depth of the Focus means that the trunk forms a deeper "well" behind the loading edge. This is advantageous when bulky or tall items should be securely placed deeper in the cargo space or when volume near the floor is to be utilized. Practically, however, this can also mean that loading very heavy items is less comfortable because more lifting distance and/or bending is required. The higher loading edge of the GLE (12% more) makes lifting heavy loads somewhat more strenuous than with the lower Focus; at the same time, the higher loading edge can be inconvenient when loading with rolling containers or during quick loading and unloading in everyday use. In combination, this means: the GLE is better suited for long and voluminous cargo, while the Focus offers advantages through its deep well and lower loading edge when storing heavier or floor-level items. In short: GLE = better for long/voluminous items; Focus = deeper, floor-level cargo space, easier lifting over the loading edge, but less overall length for long cargo.
