Trunk comparison: Ford Focus vs Tesla Model 3

Key Differences

The Tesla Model 3 offers significantly more cargo length: +12.6 in (21%) with the seats folded down and +11.8 in (39%) with the front seats upright compared to the Ford Focus.

In contrast, the Ford Focus has a considerably higher trunk opening and more depth: the opening is +11 in (54%) taller and the depth (loading edge to trunk floor) is +2.8 in (64%) greater than in the Tesla.

The width of the trunk opening is the same, with smaller differences in the narrowest width (+2.4 in / 6%) and loading edge height (+0.8 in / 3%) each under 10% and therefore less relevant.

Impact on Usability

Due to the greater cargo length, the Tesla Model 3 is better suited for transporting long items (e.g., skis, slats, long furniture parts), even when the rear seats are not folded down.

The Focus, on the other hand, scores with tall or bulky items: the significantly higher opening and greater depth make it easier to load and stack bulky boxes, large suitcases, or taller loads.

Since the opening width is the same, the same limits apply for very wide items in both vehicles. Small differences like the slightly higher loading edge or the slightly larger narrow width in the Focus are hardly noticeable in practice.
