Key Differences

The Hyundai i30 Wagon offers more cargo length when folding down the seats: it is 11.8 in (20%) longer than the VW T-Roc. This makes the i30 Wagon significantly more practical for long, flat items like slats, furniture parts, or skis that need to be loaded lengthwise.

Even with the front row seats upright, the i30 Wagon has a trunk that is 10.6 in (35%) longer. This means: even in everyday use, the i30 provides more usable cargo length for luggage or longer items behind the front seats.

The VW T-Roc, on the other hand, scores with opening height and width: the trunk opening is 7.5 in (28%) higher and the opening width is 5.9 in (15%) larger than the i30. This makes it easier to load tall or wide cargo (e.g., strollers, boxes, furniture pieces in upright position) and simplifies loading and unloading bulky items.

Regarding the loading edge and trunk floor, the T-Roc also has larger values: the depth (loading edge to trunk floor) is 8.7 in (2100%) greater and the loading edge is 5.9 in (24%) higher above the road than the i30. Practically, this means: the T-Roc requires significantly more lifting effort when loading—especially heavy items must be lifted higher—and there is a greater height difference between the loading opening and the cargo area, which can make sliding in longer items more difficult.

A higher loading edge height can, however, be advantageous for light off-road use or to protect the underbody.

The narrowest trunk width differs by only 1% in favor of the i30 and is therefore negligible.

In short: Those who frequently transport long, flat, or lengthwise-loaded items will find better usability with the Hyundai i30 Wagon. Those who more often load and unload tall or very wide, bulky parts benefit from the VW T-Roc—though they must accept the higher loading edge effort.
