Key Differences

The Tesla Model Y offers significantly more cargo length: with seats folded down, the trunk is 16.1 in (27%) longer, and with the front row upright, 13.4 in (44%) longer than the Jeep Renegade. The Renegade, on the other hand, has a higher trunk opening: 7.9 in (29%) larger than the Model Y.

Additionally, the Renegade has a significantly greater depth between the loading edge and trunk floor: 5.5 in (1300%) more.

The loading edge height above the ground is 2.4 in (9%) higher on the Renegade; the narrowest trunk width is only 1% larger on the Renegade, and the width of the trunk opening is only 3% larger on the Model Y — both marginal.

Impact on Usability

Due to the significantly greater cargo length, the Tesla Model Y is better suited for long or flat stowable items (e.g., furniture parts, long sports equipment) and for situations where seats are regularly folded down to create maximum cargo space. The flatter, longer cargo volume makes it easier to load longer items.

The Jeep Renegade, on the other hand, is better suited for tall or bulky items that need to be loaded through a high opening: the larger opening height facilitates loading tall items, and the greater depth (loading edge to floor) provides a deeper cargo profile that can better accommodate or recess bulky or irregularly shaped cargo pieces.

This can also be useful for storing cargo below the loading edge, thus reducing impact on visibility or interior space.

Ergonomically note: The slightly higher loading edge of the Renegade (≈9%) can initially make lifting heavy items more difficult, while the Model Y’s lower loading edge makes lifting easier. Width differences are negligible and have little impact on everyday usability.
