Trunk comparison: Kia Stonic vs Mercedes Benz GLE

Key Differences

The Mercedes‑Benz GLE offers significantly more cargo space in length: with the seats folded down, the trunk is 22.4 in (≈42%) longer, and with the first row of seats upright, it is even 14.2 in (≈52%) longer than the Kia Stonic. The width of the GLE's trunk opening is also larger: by 4.3 in (≈11%).

Another major difference with the Kia Stonic is the depth from the loading edge to the trunk floor, which is 7.1 in (≈1700%) greater than in the GLE.

Smaller or negligible differences include: the height of the trunk opening is only 0.8 in (≈3%) higher in the GLE, and the loading edge height and narrowest trunk width are the same in both models.

Impact on Usability

The GLE is clearly better suited for long or bulky items (e.g., furniture, long packages, skis) because the significantly greater loading length with folded seats and the wider opening make loading and maneuvering easier. The larger opening width is especially helpful when loading wide shapes.

The Kia Stonic offers more vertical space in the cargo floor area due to the greater depth between the loading edge and trunk floor (deeper cargo well). This can be useful for storing items deeper and more securely or increasing volume at higher loading heights.

Practically, however, this also means heavy cargo must be lifted further down or passed down lower, and long items are more limited due to the significantly shorter loading length.

For everyday use and shopping, both models are comparable because loading edge height and narrowest width are identical.

For transporting longer or wider goods, the GLE is the more practical choice; for more compact vehicle use with a somewhat deeper cargo well, the Stonic may offer advantages in load stability but not in the length of cargo.
