Trunk comparison: Kia Stonic vs VW Passat Wagon

Main Differences
The VW Passat Wagon offers significantly more cargo length: with the seats folded down, the trunk is 25.2 in (≈47%) longer and with the first row upright even 17.3 in (≈64%) longer than the Kia Stonic. The height of the trunk opening is the same in both models.
The Kia Stonic, on the other hand, has a significantly greater vertical depth in the loading area and a higher load lip: the depth (load lip → trunk floor) is 3.5 in (≈100%) greater and the load lip is 5.1 in (≈20%) higher above the road than on the Passat.
Width differences (narrowest point +1.6 in on the Stonic, opening width +2.4 in on the Passat) are minor at 4–6% and thus less relevant.
Impact on Usability
For long or bulky items (e.g., slats, long furniture parts, unfolded bicycles), the Passat has a clear advantage: the significantly longer cargo areas both with folded and upright seats allow for larger, lengthwise-oriented loads and more usable volume without folding down the rear seats.
For regular transport of luggage or bulky parts, the Passat therefore offers overall greater flexibility.
The higher load floor and higher load lip of the Kia Stonic mean practical effort when loading: heavy goods must be lifted higher, loading and unloading is more strenuous, and less convenient for people with limited mobility.
However, the greater depth from the load lip to the floor can "hide" smaller luggage deeper in the cargo area and possibly allow somewhat better stacking of smaller items. Since the opening height is the same and the width differences are minor, these dimensions hardly affect loading with wide items.
