Key Differences

With the first row of seats closed (rear seat upright), the CLA Shooting Brake offers a loading length that is 4.3 in (≈12%) longer than the GLB. The depth of the trunk (measured from the loading edge to the trunk floor) is 3.9 in (≈83%) greater in the CLA Shooting Brake.

In contrast, the GLB has a trunk opening that is 6.7 in (≈24%) higher and a tailgate opening that is 7.5 in (≈22%) wider.

The width at the narrowest point is the same for both models; with the rear seats folded down, the lengths differ practically not at all (+0.4 in, ≈1%). The loading edge height differs only slightly (+1.2 in, ≈4%).

Impact on Usability

The deep cargo floor of the CLA Shooting Brake makes it advantageous in everyday use for longer or stackable loads: long items, boxes, or bulky luggage can be pushed further forward and remain more stable in the cargo area.

Even with upright rear seats, the greater loading length of the CLA provides more usable storage space for elongated items.

The GLB, on the other hand, scores points with bulky, tall, or wider loads: the higher and significantly wider trunk opening makes loading and unloading furniture parts, large boxes, or strollers easier because bulky items fit more easily through the opening and require less tilting.

For frequent loading of large-format items, the GLB is therefore more practical.

In practice, this means: If you often transport long/stacked cargo or want to utilize the floor depth, the CLA Shooting Brake is often better suited. If you frequently need to load wider or taller, unwieldy parts, the larger opening of the GLB facilitates handling.

With the rear seats folded down, however, the usable lengths are almost identical, so both models are comparably suitable for very long loads. The small difference in loading edge height has hardly any noticeable effect.
