Key Differences

The Tesla Model 3 offers more cargo length: with the seats folded down, the trunk is 8.7 in (13%) longer and with the front seats upright, the trunk is 7.9 in (23%) longer than the Nissan Qashqai.

The trunk opening height, however, is significantly larger on the Qashqai: the trunk opening is 11 in (54%) higher than on the Model 3. Additionally, the Model 3 has a much deeper loading floor (distance from loading edge to trunk floor): the depth is 2 in (83%) greater than on the Qashqai.

The Qashqai’s loading edge sits higher above the road (3.9 in / 15% higher), and the width of the trunk opening is also larger on the Qashqai (4.7 in / 12%). The narrowest interior width of the trunk is only slightly larger on the Qashqai (+3.5 in / 9%), falling just under the 10% mark.

Impact on Usability

For long items and flat-loadable cargo, the Model 3 is better suited: the longer dimensions with folded or upright seats allow storing longer items like slats, skis, or furniture parts.

The greater depth of the Model 3 creates more usable space below the loading edge but increases the distance to the trunk floor, making it somewhat less comfortable to load items placed at the very bottom.

The Qashqai is better for bulky, tall, or wide cargo: the significantly higher trunk opening and larger opening width make it easier to load boxes, crates, or bulky items limited in height.

However, the higher loading edge means heavy loads must be lifted higher, which complicates loading and unloading. The slightly larger interior width at the opening supports maneuvering wide parts when sliding them in.

In practice, this means: Those who frequently transport long, flat items or need a lot of volume benefit from the Tesla Model 3. Those who more often load large, bulky, or tall items and value a larger opening are better served by the Nissan Qashqai.
