Key Differences

The Nissan Qashqai offers significantly more cargo volume: with the seats folded down, the trunk is +7.9 in (14%) longer, and with the first row upright, even +8.3 in (32%) longer than the VW T-Cross.

Additionally, the height of the trunk opening on the Qashqai is +3.9 in (14%) greater, and the width of the trunk opening is +5.5 in (14%) wider on the Qashqai. In contrast, the VW T-Cross has a significantly greater depth between the loading edge and the trunk floor: +3.9 in (167%) in favor of the T-Cross.

Impact on Usability

The longer cargo dimensions and larger opening of the Qashqai make loading long, tall, or wide items easier — more usable space with the seats folded down and more pass-through and adjustment freedom with the rear bench upright.

The higher opening height and wider opening facilitate loading bulky items (e.g., furniture panels, strollers, larger suitcases).

The deeper trunk floor of the T-Cross (greater depth loading edge–floor) means a more pronounced, deeper cargo well: This can be advantageous for storing luggage lower down and thus more protected from wind or view, or for recessing items under the cargo floor.

Practically, however, this also means heavy lifting must be done lower down and very flat/tall items may be harder to lay flat.

In short: For maximum usable cargo space, easy loading of wide/tall items, and more flexible loading scenarios, the Qashqai is better suited. For applications where a deeper cargo well or recessing luggage is desired, the T-Cross offers an advantage.
