Key Differences (>10%)

The Opel Astra Wagon offers a significantly larger usable loading length: +8.3 in (14%) with the seats folded down and even +16.1 in (62%) when the front seat row is upright. The trunk opening of the Astra is also +3.1 in (11%) higher than that of the T-Cross.

In contrast, the VW T-Cross features a significantly greater depth between the loading edge and the trunk floor: +5.5 in (700%) compared to the Astra. Additionally, the loading edge of the T-Cross is +4.7 in (20%) higher above the ground.

Impact on Usability

The longer cargo space of the Astra Wagon makes it better suited for long items (e.g., slats, furniture parts, long boxes) and for transport with the rear seat partially upright — less frequent folding, more straight loading.

The higher trunk opening facilitates loading tall or bulky items. Because the loading edge of the Astra is lower than that of the T-Cross, lifting heavy loads into the vehicle is easier.

The T-Cross benefits from the greater trunk depth: items sit deeper below the loading edge and are thus more stable during driving movements; additionally, the deeper recess reduces the interior height for stored cargo.

However, this advantage comes at the cost of a higher loading edge — lifting heavy loads into the T-Cross is more strenuous. For short, tall, or bulky items, the T-Cross is less practical, but for securely storing small to medium cargo in a deeper well, it can be advantageous.

Width differences at the narrowest point (+3.5 in) and in the opening width (+2.8 in) are under 10% and remain unnoticeable in practice.
