Trunk comparison: Opel Astra Wagon vs Seat Tarraco

Comparison of trunk dimensions for the Opel Astra Wagon and Seat Tarraco

Summary of the Biggest Differences

The two vehicles mainly differ in trunk design: The SEAT Tarraco offers slightly more cargo length with the seats folded down (+3.5 in, 5%) and also slightly more length with the first row upright (+3.9 in, 10%) than the Opel Astra Sports Tourer.

The width at the narrowest point is minimally greater in the Astra (+0.4 in, 1%), the width of the trunk opening is somewhat larger in the Tarraco (+3.1 in, 7%), and the height of the trunk opening is slightly greater in the Astra (+0.8 in, 2%).

Significant differences (>10%) concern two points: The trunk depth (loading edge to trunk floor) is significantly greater in the Opel Astra (+3.1 in, 133%) than in the SEAT Tarraco, and the loading edge of the SEAT Tarraco sits noticeably higher above the road (+5.5 in, 23%) than the Opel.

Impact on Usability

The greater trunk depth of the Astra means that the trunk floor is located significantly lower below the loading edge. Practically, this means: The Astra can accommodate more usable volume in depth (advantageous for stackable or tall cargo that fits in the "box" beneath the loading edge).

When loading and unloading bulky or heavy items, however, more lifting movement is required because the cargo must first be lifted up to the loading edge when removing it.

The higher loading edge of the Tarraco makes loading relevant from two perspectives: On one hand, the higher threshold increases the effort needed to lift heavy items in (increased step over the loading edge); on the other hand, the trunk floor height is closer to the loading edge (due to shallower depth), so items lie less "low" and can be pulled or rolled out more easily.

In short: Tarraco requires more lifting height at the vehicle edge but offers a flatter loading surface directly behind the loading edge.

In practice, this means:

- Those who frequently lift heavy, bulky items (e.g., boxes, furniture parts) benefit more from the lower loading edge height of the Astra; however, the greater depth makes lifting out somewhat less comfortable, especially for low-lying cargo.
- Those who often lay down long items or want to pull/roll out a lot of flat-layered cargo have advantages with the Tarraco due to the flatter loading surface directly behind the loading edge but suffer from the overall higher loading edge when lifting from the ground.

The smaller differences in length, width, and opening height (≤10%) only slightly affect everyday use: Tarraco is slightly longer, Astra slightly wider at the narrowest point, and minimally taller at the opening — these mainly influence loading details rather than fundamental usability.
