Key Differences

The most noticeable difference is in the usable trunk length with seats upright: the Tesla Model Y offers +30.3 in (226%) more cargo length than the Peugeot 5008 when all seats are upright.

At the same time, the Peugeot leads in several dimensions: the height of the trunk opening is +4.3 in (16%) larger on the Peugeot, the width at the narrowest point is +7.9 in (21%) wider, and the width of the trunk opening is +4.7 in (12%) larger than on the Tesla.

Impact on Usability

The significant differences lead to different strengths in everyday use:

  • Tesla Model Y — better for long items: Due to the significantly greater cargo length with seats upright, the Model Y is better suited when long items need to be transported frequently (e.g., long boxes, skis, slats, or long packages) without folding down seats.
  • Peugeot 5008 — better for wide and tall loads as well as easy loading: The greater width at the narrowest point and the wider and taller opening make loading wide, bulky, or tall items easier (e.g., strollers, large suitcases, furniture parts). The larger opening also reduces maneuvering and lifting when loading.
  • With seats folded down, hardly relevant: Differences in cargo length with seats folded down (only +3–6%) as well as depth and loading edge height (<10%) are minor and will hardly affect practical use.
