Trunk comparison: Renault Clio vs Skoda Octavia Wagon

Core Differences (only differences >10% highlighted)

The Škoda Octavia Wagon offers significantly more cargo length: with the rear seat folded down, the trunk of the Octavia is 21.3 in (≈41%) longer, and with the front seats upright it is even 15 in (≈54%) longer than the Renault Clio. This clearly makes the Octavia superior for long or bulky items.

There are two other major differences in loading geometry: the depth from the loading edge to the trunk floor is 26.4 in (≈670%) greater in the Renault Clio than in the Octavia, while the loading edge of the Octavia is 15.7 in (≈167%) higher above the ground than that of the Clio.

Practically, this means: the Clio has a significantly deeper load floor / "storage box" below the loading edge, while the Octavia has a higher loading edge and overall flatter entry situation inside.

What are the consequences of these differences for everyday usability?

- Cargo length: Due to the significantly greater length in the Octavia, long items (e.g. slats, skis, furniture parts, bicycle accessories) can be transported more easily and without complicated stacking. The Clio is clearly more limited here because of the shorter loading surface.

- Loading height and handling heavy loads: The loading edge of the Octavia sits significantly higher. This means heavier items must be lifted higher, which makes loading more difficult. The Clio has the lower loading edge and is advantageous when lifting heavy loads.

- Accessibility and usable cargo area: Due to the very large depth (loading edge → floor) of the Clio, part of the cargo volume lies significantly below the loading edge.

While this can create volume, it makes loading and unloading smaller or hard-to-reach items impractical (deeper bending, harder access). In the Octavia, the flatter interior geometry results in a practically easier-to-use area and facilitates sliding in and organizing luggage.

- Other dimensions: Differences in trunk opening height (+1.6 in / 5% in favor of Octavia) and widths (+1–1.2 in) are small (<10%) and hardly affect everyday usability.

Conclusion

For regularly carrying long or bulky items, the Škoda Octavia Wagon is the better choice (significantly longer load floor, more practical interior geometry).

For light to medium luggage and frequent lifting of heavy individual items, the lower loading edge of the Renault Clio can be advantageous, but this comes at the expense of loading length and practical accessibility of the trunk.
