Trunk comparison: Skoda Octavia Wagon vs VW ID.4

Comparison of trunk dimensions for the Skoda Octavia Wagon and VW ID.4
Comparison of trunk dimensions for the Skoda Octavia Wagon and VW ID.4

Main Differences

The Škoda Octavia Wagon offers a loading floor that is 6.7 in longer under folded seats than the Volkswagen ID.4 (difference: 10%).

With the first row of seats upright, the difference is more pronounced: the Octavia has 5.9 in or 16% more loading length than the ID.4. The loading edge of the ID.4 is 3.9 in or 16% higher above the road than that of the Octavia, which affects the loading and unloading process.

The trunk opening of the ID.4 is 0.8 in (3%) higher, the narrowest width is 0.4 in (1%) larger, and the opening width is 1.6 in (4%) wider than that of the Octavia. The depth of the trunk (loading edge to floor) is the same in both models.

Impact on Usability

Due to the significantly greater loading length with the rear seat upright, the Octavia is more practical for everyday use when frequently traveling with passengers and bulky items at the same time — such as larger suitcases, long objects like skis or building materials that need to be stored behind the rear seat.

The 6.7 in longer loading volume with folded seats also improves the Octavia for large, elongated loads, although this difference is exactly 10% and thus less pronounced.

The higher loading edge of the ID.4 makes lifting heavy objects more strenuous (higher effort when lifting boxes or shopping bags inside).

On the other hand, the ID.4 offers a slightly larger opening height and width, which can facilitate loading wider or taller items — however, the advantage is small (3–4% or 0.4 in) and does not fully compensate for the higher loading edge.

In short: For users who regularly transport long objects behind an upright rear seat or simply need easier access to a large cargo space, the Octavia is more practical in everyday use. The ID.4 scores with a slightly wider opening but suffers from the significantly higher loading edge, making loading more cumbersome.
