Trunk dimensions Lucid Air

The trunk of the Lucid Air 2024 offers a volume of about 22.1 cu ft, which can be expanded up to 42.4 cu ft by folding down the rear seats.

The rear bench is split 60/40, allowing flexibility when transporting larger items. The interior is designed in a modern style, with high-quality materials and a thoughtful layout that facilitates access to the trunk.

The trunk dimensions vary slightly between different models in the lineup, with the shape generally being rectangular, which increases practicality. The loading edge is low, making loading and unloading easier. Overall, the Lucid Air offers a successful combination of space and functionality.

Model Information

The Lucid Air is a fully electric sedan manufactured by Lucid Motors. Focusing on luxury, performance, and innovative technology, the Lucid Air offers an impressive range and advanced features.

The latest series of the Lucid Air combines elegant design with a variety of high-tech features, including a state-of-the-art infotainment system and advanced driver assistance systems. The sedan is known for its high efficiency and impressive acceleration, making it one of the leading electric vehicles on the market.

Variants of the Same Lineup

The Lucid Air is offered in several variants that differ in performance, equipment, and price. These include the Lucid Air Pure, Lucid Air Touring, Lucid Air Grand Touring, and Lucid Air Dream Edition models.

Each model offers different performance levels and features tailored to various customer needs. It is important not to confuse these variants, as they have different ranges and technical specifications.

Yearly Differences

The Lucid Air was first introduced in 2021, and since then there have been some model changes affecting body and trunk dimensions.

In particular, some technical updates and improvements to the vehicle architecture were made in 2022, optimizing efficiency and available storage space. Future models may undergo further adjustments to enhance functionality and comfort.

Direct Competition

In the same price class and size as the Lucid Air are models like the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. The Tesla Model S offers a trunk volume of about 15 cu ft, while the Porsche Taycan has a trunk volume of around 12.9 cu ft.

Thus, the Lucid Air has a larger trunk volume compared to its competitors, making it more attractive for buyers who need ample cargo space.

More Affordable Alternatives

For buyers looking for more affordable alternatives with similar trunk dimensions, models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6 might be considered. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 offers a trunk volume of about 18.8 cu ft, while the Kia EV6 has around 17.3 cu ft.

These vehicles provide a good combination of price-performance ratio and cargo space but are not directly comparable to the Lucid Air in terms of luxury and performance.

Trunk Volume

The figures for the Lucid Air's cargo volume vary depending on the measurement method. The practically relevant breakdown is as follows:

Rear trunk (measured independently of manufacturer): approx. 14.1 cu ft.
Additionally, under the load floor, approx. 3.9 cu ft of usable storage volume — totaling around 18.1 cu ft (often cited as a practical value).
Manufacturer's specification for the trunk: 22.1 cu ft (different measurement method).
Front trunk (frunk): 7.8 cu ft, well usable as additional luggage space.
With folded rear seats (recommended up to the window sill), up to 31.4 cu ft is possible.

Everyday impact: The rear volume is about average to above average in practice; combined with the frunk, this results in a very large total storage capacity.

The Air thus offers enough space for weekend trips or multiple suitcases; in daily use, it is significantly roomier than many mid-size sedans. As a special note, up to ten beverage crates can be used as a practical comparison size.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Exterior dimensions: 196.1 in long, 76.4 in wide, 55.5 in high.
Compared to an average car, it is ~16.5 in longer, ~3.5 in wider, and ~5.9 in lower.
Relative to a standard parking space, the vehicle is 1.2 in shorter and 22 in narrower — so it basically fits in standard parking spots but has little lateral clearance in very tight parking spaces or garages.
Empty weight 2435 kg, payload 415 kg (gross vehicle weight approx. 2850 kg).

Everyday impact: The length makes parking maneuvers and tight driveway entries more challenging than with compact cars; the width requires attention in narrow parking garages.

The lower height benefits aerodynamics and entryways with limited clearance. Due to limited payload, weights should be checked when fully occupied with luggage — heavy loads or roof boxes can quickly exhaust the payload.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

The loading opening is unusually wide and does not have a high lip — items do not need to be lifted over an edge.
Very low loading edge (24 in) facilitates loading and unloading heavy suitcases.
With folded rear seats, a nearly flat loading surface with a slight incline is created; a loading hatch allows for long items.
Practical details: softly folding rear seatbacks, storage compartment on the left for the AC charging cable, small compartment on the right, 12V socket, and good lighting.
Disadvantages: no tie-down points or bag hooks in the cargo area, no foot-kick opener, rear hatch lock protrudes (risk of injury, though covered in plastic).

Everyday impact: The combination of a flat, wide opening and low loading edge makes loading heavy or bulky suitcases very comfortable.

Missing tie-down points make securing heavy cargo more difficult — additional straps or securing solutions are recommended when transporting bulky/heavy goods. Electric operation via key and good lighting increase user comfort.

General Model Information

Familiarity and Positioning: The Lucid Air is a premium electric sedan model positioned as a competitor to upper mid-range and luxury EVs.

Special Features: Large, divisible frunk (7.8 cu ft), unusually wide and sill-free rear opening, very low loading edge, softly folding rear seatbacks, and generous underfloor storage compartments.

Characteristics: Significant differences between manufacturer and independent volume figures (22.1 cu ft vs. 14.1 cu ft) — when purchasing/planning, practical independent measurements should be considered. The protruding rear lock construction is a minor negative point.

Price-Performance and Competition: The Lucid Air targets buyers seeking premium equipment and high efficiency; the price is accordingly in the upper class. Relevant competitors include Tesla Model S, Mercedes-EQS, Porsche Taycan, and BMW i7.

Practical conclusion: For travelers and users with regular luggage needs, the Lucid Air offers very good storage capacity, especially when including the frunk and underfloor compartments.

For heavy transports, however, tie-down points are missing in the rear and payload is limited — when fully occupied, weight and cargo securing should be consciously planned.
