Trunk dimensions Audi A5 Coupe

The trunk of the Audi A5 Coupe 2017 offers a volume of about 15.9 cu ft, which can be expanded up to 45.9 cu ft by folding down the rear seats.

The rear bench is split in a 40:20:40 ratio, allowing flexibility when transporting larger items. The interior design is high-quality, with a flat loading floor and a low loading lip that makes loading and unloading easier.

The trunk dimensions vary slightly within the model range but generally remain compact and sporty, matching the coupe design. The shape of the trunk is functional, with a practical opening that facilitates access. Overall, the Audi A5 Coupe combines appealing aesthetics with a well-thought-out trunk concept.

Model Information

The Audi A5 Coupe is a sporty vehicle that was first introduced in 2007 and has since undergone several model generations. The latest series combines elegant design with advanced technology and offers a variety of engines, including gasoline and diesel options.

The A5 Coupe is known for its dynamic driving characteristics and high-quality interior, emphasizing driving comfort and user-friendliness.

Variants of the Same Series

The Audi A5 is available in several variants that differ in form and function. Besides the coupe, there is also the sedan, the convertible, and the Sportback. While the coupe offers a sporty silhouette, the Sportback has a five-door body that provides more space and flexibility in the interior.

The sedan has a similar shape to the coupe but with a larger trunk, while the convertible offers an open driving experience. These differences are important to choose the right variant for individual needs.

Yearly Differences

The model generations of the Audi A5 have undergone some changes over the years that affect the body dimensions and trunk dimensions. The second generation, introduced in 2016, brought an increase in dimensions, which also led to a larger trunk volume.

Previous models had smaller dimensions, which influenced the trunk space and overall interior design. It is important to compare specific model years to understand the differences in dimensions and trunk volume.

Direct Competitors

In the same price class and size as the Audi A5 Coupe, models like the BMW 4 Series Coupe and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe can be found. The BMW 4 Series offers a trunk volume of about 15.7 cu ft, while the C-Class Coupe provides slightly less space with about 14.1 cu ft.

These differences can be decisive for buyers who value cargo space. The A5 Coupe thus positions itself as one of the better options in terms of trunk volume within this competition.

More Affordable Alternatives

For buyers looking for more affordable alternatives with similar trunk dimensions, models like the Ford Mustang or the Toyota Supra might be considered. The Ford Mustang offers a trunk volume of about 14.4 cu ft, while the Toyota Supra provides significantly less space with about 10.2 cu ft.

These models are sporty and offer an appealing driving experience but are not as generous in terms of trunk space as the Audi A5 Coupe. Buyers should therefore weigh their priorities regarding price and cargo space.

Trunk Volume

The Audi A5 Coupe 2025 has very different figures depending on the measurement method: Manufacturer: 11.7 cu ft, a median figure in the fact package states ≈13.7 cu ft, and independent measurements come to 15.7 cu ft.

Compared to the average car, the volume is about -7.6 %. The trunk accounts for just under 6 % of the total vehicle volume (−0.5 percentage points compared to the average).

Special notes on usable volume:

Under the trunk cover: 10.4 cu ft (in certain variants, e.g., g-tron reduced by gas tank).
Without cover, the volume grows only marginally (up to about 12.4 cu ft) because the flat rear window quickly limits space.
According to measurement, up to 8 beverage crates fit inside.
With folded rear seats (up to window sill height): approx. 21.5 cu ft, completely up to the front seats: up to 35.3 cu ft.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Dimensions: 190.2 in length, 73.2 in width, 56.7 in height. Compared to the average, the A5 Coupe is ~5.9 % longer, minimally wider (+0.5 %), and ~7.7 % lower.

Regarding parking and everyday usability:

The length is increased but does not make parking impossible — the vehicle is reportedly 6.7 in shorter and 25.2 in narrower than a typical parking space, so it generally fits in standard bays.
The low height improves aerodynamics and sporty appearance but can limit headroom when loading/unloading and moving tall items.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

Everyday usability and operating comfort are well thought out but have limitations:

Electric tailgate standard; combined with comfort key, hands-free foot operation is possible — practical when loading.
The tailgate swings up to 1.90 m high, but the edge is 7.9 in before the vehicle end, so even tall people hardly hit their heads.
Loading lip: 27.2 in above road level — a favorable height for lifting. Inside, however, there is a step of just under 3.1 in that somewhat hinders rolling in and out bulky or heavy items.
Rear seatbacks fold in three parts; release possible from the rear bench but no separate release levers in the trunk (unlike wagons like the A4 Avant).
Folding does not create a completely flat loading floor (slight rise/small step), which makes storing very long, flat items somewhat more difficult but does not significantly impair sliding them forward.
g-tron variant: Gas tank under the rear significantly reduces trunk volume to 10.4 cu ft and removes storage compartments under the floor — relevant when deciding on purchase.
Trunk lighting is good (left/right light strips + lamp in tailgate trim), partly optional.

General Model Information

Familiarity and positioning: The A5 Coupe stands for a sporty-elegant coupe silhouette with high premium equipment. It typically competes with the BMW 4 Series Coupe and the Mercedes C-Class Coupe.

Special features and peculiarities:

Standard equipment includes, among others, an electric tailgate; extensive lighting and assistance options are available (glare-free high beam assistant, cornering and turning lights, optionally auto-dimming mirrors).
Optional comfort functions (keyless system with sensor buttons, ambient lighting) increase operating comfort but also have drawbacks: The keyless entry system is considered security-critical (relay attacks) and is not easily deactivated.
In special drive variants (g-tron), the trunk offer is noticeably limited; buyers should consider variant comparisons.

Price-performance assessment: The A5 Coupe offers high-quality workmanship, modern assistance systems, and appealing design in its class. Buyers pay for premium and technology but must accept compromises in practicality (no completely flat loading floor, partly optional useful extras, g-tron limitations).
