Trunk dimensions Ford Fiesta

The 2022 Ford Fiesta in hatchback design offers a trunk volume of about 10.3 cu ft, which can be expanded up to 38.6 cu ft when the rear seats are folded down.

The rear bench is split 60:40, allowing flexibility when transporting luggage. The interior is functionally designed, with a low loading lip that makes loading easier.

The trunk dimensions vary slightly within the model range, with a rather rectangular shape that optimizes space usage. Typical features include good accessibility and practical arrangement of tie-down points. The trunk design is aimed at everyday usability, making it suitable for city driving and shorter trips.

Model Information

The Ford Fiesta is a popular subcompact car model that has gained a loyal following since its introduction in the 1970s. The latest series of the Ford Fiesta, available since 2017, offers a combination of modern design, advanced technology, and efficient engines.

The hatchback is the most commonly chosen body style, combining sporty lines with practical features. The Fiesta is known for its agile driving dynamics and offers high driving comfort for both city trips and longer journeys.

Variants of the Same Series

The Ford Fiesta is offered in several variants, including the hatchback, sedan, and wagon. The hatchback is especially popular due to its versatility and sporty design.

The sedan offers more interior space, while the wagon provides additional cargo space for families and frequent travelers. It is important not to confuse these variants, as they offer different features and usage possibilities.

Yearly Differences

Model changes affecting body and trunk dimensions mainly occurred in the 2017 and 2021 model years. The 2017 generation introduced a new platform that improved both dimensions and efficiency.

In 2021, a facelift version brought minor adjustments to the body and interior design but did not significantly change the trunk volume.

Direct Competitors

In the same vehicle class, the Ford Fiesta competes with models such as the Volkswagen Polo, Opel Corsa, and Renault Clio. The Volkswagen Polo offers a trunk volume of about 12.4 cu ft, making it superior in this regard.

The Opel Corsa has a volume of around 10.9 cu ft, while the Renault Clio offers 13.8 cu ft. These differences can be decisive for buyers who place special emphasis on cargo space.

More Affordable Alternatives

For buyers looking for more affordable alternatives with similar trunk dimensions, models like the Dacia Sandero and Kia Picanto are worth mentioning. The Dacia Sandero offers a trunk volume of about 11.6 cu ft and is known for its good price-performance ratio.

The Kia Picanto, on the other hand, has a smaller trunk volume of about 9 cu ft but offers solid equipment at a low price. These models are worth considering when budget is an important factor.

Trunk space Ford Fiesta

Ford Fiesta trunk space volume — Trunk volume Ford Fiesta

Trunk Volume

The Ford Fiesta (2022) offers a rather small cargo compartment in practice. Depending on the source, the volume is approximately 260–10.3 cu ft (manufacturer: 10.3 cu ft, independent measurements: 9.2 cu ft, representative average: ~9.7 cu ft).

This makes the trunk significantly smaller compared to average cars (-34.3%).

With the rear seats folded down, the volume increases significantly: up to the window sill is about 20.5 cu ft (independent measurement), using the entire space behind the front seats up to 34.4 cu ft (independent) or 38.6 cu ft (manufacturer specification, up to roof height).

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

The Fiesta measures 160.2 in length, 68.5 in width, 58.3 in height. Compared to an average car, it is 19.3 in shorter, 4.7 in narrower, and 3.1 in lower. This makes it very agile and parking-friendly — even tight inner-city parking spots and narrow spaces are easier to approach.

However, it is significantly smaller than a standard parking space (about 36.6 in shorter and 30.3 in narrower), which brings parking advantages but less interior/cargo space.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

Practical features and limitations:

Variable storage space: 9.2 cu ft under the cover, about 12.2 cu ft without cover up to the roof lining — removing the cover noticeably increases space.
Folding the rear seatback: asymmetrical and tool-free; headrests do not need to be removed. Caution: do not pinch seat belts.
Loading height: loading lip is just under 27.6 in above the road, inside there is a step of about 8.3 in — making heavy loading more difficult.
Tailgate: electrically assisted unlocking but no electric tailgate; the hatch does not open very high — people over ~1.85 m risk hitting their heads, and the rear lock protrudes.
Lighting and accessibility: only a small interior light in the trunk, insufficient night lighting; two grip recesses facilitate closing.
Loading options: reportedly up to five beverage crates possible; with folded rear seats and limitation to window sill height, 20.5 cu ft is practically usable, fully behind the front seats up to 975–38.6 cu ft.

Practical consequences: In everyday use, the Fiesta is ideal for shopping, weekend trips, or city use. For longer vacations with several people or bulky luggage, the standard trunk is limited; only by folding the seats does real transport capacity arise.

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Ford Fiesta is an established subcompact model and long-time bestseller in the segment — known for agility and good city behavior.

Special features / peculiarities: available engine variants (including 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid), optional features like windshield heating (can cause reflections at night), no roof handle inside, and a keyless entry system with a known security vulnerability to relay attacks (keyless break-in risk).

Price-performance assessment: The Fiesta generally offers a good basic package for city drivers: compact dimensions, economical engines, and decent driving characteristics. Drawbacks include trunk size, loading ergonomics (high loading lip), and detail quality of some equipment (lighting, protruding rear lock).

Competitor models: VW Polo, Renault Clio, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai i20 — all offer similar space/equipment profiles; those wanting more trunk space find larger cargo volumes with some competitors.

Practical conclusion: Those primarily driving in the city and rarely transporting large loads get a handy, economical subcompact with the Fiesta. Those regularly traveling with much luggage or three adults plus suitcases should consider the limited trunk capacity and loading ergonomics before purchase.
