Trunk dimensions Ford Galaxy

The Ford Galaxy 2016 offers a generous trunk with a volume of about 10.6 cu ft with the rear seats upright and up to 82.6 cu ft with the seats folded down.

The rear seat is usually split 60:40, allowing flexibility for transport. The interior design is functional and focused on practicality, with a low loading edge for easy loading and unloading.

The trunk dimensions can vary depending on equipment and model variant but provide thoughtful solutions for different needs. Typical features include a rectangular shape and numerous storage compartments that optimize cargo space. The Galaxy is known for its family-friendliness and comfortable access to the trunk.

Model Information

The Ford Galaxy is a versatile van designed for families and groups. The latest series offers a combination of modern design, advanced technology, and high comfort.

With seating for up to seven passengers, the Galaxy is ideal for longer trips or daily use. The equipment includes modern infotainment systems, safety features, and a variety of assistance systems that make driving easier and safer.

Variants of the Same Series

The Ford Galaxy is mainly offered as a van. There are no direct variants like sedan or convertible within this model series.

However, the Galaxy differs from other Ford models like the Ford S-Max, which is also considered a van but has a sportier orientation. Buyers should be aware that the Galaxy is specifically designed for maximum comfort and space.

Yearly Differences

The Ford Galaxy has undergone several model changes over the years that have affected body dimensions and trunk measurements. The current generation was introduced in 2015, with significant changes in size and design.

Previous models, especially the generations from 2006 and 2010, had smaller trunk volumes and a different interior configuration. These differences are important for buyers who value maximum transport capacity.

Direct Competition

In the same price range and size, the Ford Galaxy competes with models like the Volkswagen Sharan and the Seat Alhambra. The Volkswagen Sharan offers a similar trunk volume of about 10.6 cu ft with seats upright but can reach up to 81.1 cu ft with folded seats.

The Seat Alhambra has comparable dimensions, but exact volumes can vary depending on equipment. Buyers should compare the specific dimensions of the models to make the best choice for their needs.

More Affordable Alternatives

For buyers looking for similar trunk dimensions but with a lower budget, there are some alternatives. Models like the Dacia Lodgy offer a trunk volume of up to 29.2 cu ft with folded seats, representing a cost-effective option.

The Citroën Berlingo can also be a good choice, as it offers a flexible interior concept and a trunk volume of up to 105.9 cu ft when the seats are folded. These models are generally more affordable while still providing sufficient space for families and transport.

Ford Galaxy trunk space volume — Trunk volume Ford Galaxy

Trunk Volume

The volume specifications for the Ford Galaxy 2021 vary greatly depending on the source. Key values:

19.6 cu ft up to the trunk cover (manufacturer-independent measurement) — common practical value for the 5-seater.
37.3 cu ft up to the window sill with folded rear seats (manufacturer-independent).
66.9 cu ft roof-high with folded rear seats (manufacturer-independent measurement).
Manufacturer specifications differ: 7.1 cu ft (smaller figure) and 82.6 cu ft roof-high with folded seats (manufacturer specification).
Additional detailed values: up to the roof with upright seats about 30.4 cu ft, under the trunk floor an additional 0.7 cu ft, with the third row set up only 6 cu ft.

Conclusion: For five people, the Galaxy offers good luggage space with about 19.6 cu ft; with the rear seats folded down, the cargo space becomes very large (up to ~1,055–66.9 cu ft, depending on measurement method).

Due to differing manufacturer specifications, it is advisable to rely on independent measurements if needed.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Dimensions: 190.9 in long, 75.6 in wide, 68.9 in high. Compared to an average car, the Galaxy is significantly larger: +11.4 in length (+6.3%), +2.8 in width (+3.5%), and +7.1 in height (+11.7%).

Practical consequences:

The vehicle fits into normal parking spaces (according to the fact sheet it is 5.9 in shorter and 22.8 in narrower than a standard parking bay), yet the width of 75.6 in requires caution when entering and exiting and maneuvering in tight spots.
The increased height can be relevant in low garages.
Due to limited visibility of low obstacles, the optional rearview camera/parking sensor package is recommended. The rear window sill is relatively high; the trunk loading edge is 26 in, which facilitates loading and unloading.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

Practical features:

Standard three individual seats in the second row: flexibly adjustable/foldable, can be folded down from the trunk at the push of a button — even with front seats pushed back.
With the third row set up, only about 6 cu ft is available, so very little luggage space for seven people.
When folding, the middle rear seatbelt must be removed; the trunk roller blind must be removed to set up the third row and cannot be stored under the floor — this reduces ease of use.
No sturdy tie-down rings near the floor and limited interior lighting (one lamp on the left and one in the tailgate) — tie-down options and visibility in the dark are limited.
Under the floor, there is an additional 0.7 cu ft of storage space; the loading edge at 26 in height makes loading easier.
Optionally, the tailgate opens and closes fully automatically; up to 21 beverage crates can reportedly be stored with folded seats (depending on measurement method and loading).
Technical payload: curb weight 1,928 kg, payload 462 kg — with full occupancy, the remaining capacity for luggage is noticeably reduced.

General Model Information

Reputation and position: The Ford Galaxy is a classic MPV focused on variability and spacious interior — a well-known choice for families.

Special features and peculiarities:

Hybrid variants (e.g., 2.5 Hybrid) are available; equipment such as keyless entry system, automatic tailgate, and aspherical exterior mirrors are possible.
Negative points from tests: weak lighting concept in the trunk, difficult to detect low obstacles due to high rear window sill, insecure keyless systems (radio extender attacks), and some impractical detail solutions (belt removal, missing tie-down rings, roller blind handling).

Price-performance and competition:

Strengths: very variable and mostly large cargo space, comfortable entry/exit conditions, family-oriented equipment.
Weaknesses: detail comfort and safety equipment for parking/loading/unloading are partially optional; handling drawbacks (belt, roller blind, lighting, tie-down rings) reduce everyday usability somewhat.
Typical competitors: Volkswagen Sharan / Touran, SEAT Alhambra (historically), Renault Grand Scenic, Citroën Grand C4 SpaceTourer; in the premium segment alternatively Mercedes V-Class.

Conclusion: The Galaxy 2021 offers plenty of space and flexible usage options, especially as a five-seater with folded rear seats. Buyers should note the inconsistent volume specifications, limited payload, and practical details (belt/roller blind/lighting, optional rearview camera).
