Trunk dimensions Hyundai i30 Fastback

The Hyundai i30 Fastback Coupé from 2013 offers a trunk volume of about 15.9 cu ft with the rear seats upright. When the seats are folded down, the volume can increase up to 49.4 cu ft, allowing for flexible use. The rear bench is split 60:40, which increases variability when transporting luggage.

The interior is functionally designed, with a low loading lip that makes loading and unloading easier.

The trunk dimensions vary within the model range, with the trunk shape being rather flat and wide, enabling good utilization of the space. Practicality is supported by additional storage compartments and a well-thought-out interior design.

Model Information

The Hyundai i30 Fastback is a sporty compact vehicle characterized by its elegant coupe shape. It combines the advantages of a hatchback with the stylish design of a coupe.

The i30 Fastback offers a balanced mix of performance, comfort, and state-of-the-art technology. The latest series is available with various engines, including gasoline and diesel options, providing both efficiency and driving pleasure.

Variants of the Same Line

The Hyundai i30 is available in several variants that differ in shape and function. Besides the Fastback, there is also the hatchback version, which is considered the most popular variant.

Additionally, sedans and wagons are offered, each targeting different customer groups. It is important not to confuse these variants as they have different trunk volumes and design features.

Yearly Differences

The Hyundai i30 Fastback was first introduced in 2017. Since then, there have been several model changes affecting body dimensions and trunk volume.

In particular, the 2020 facelift brought some adjustments in vehicle architecture that improved both aerodynamics and interior design. These changes led to an optimized trunk that better meets user needs.

Direct Competition

In the same price class and size, the Hyundai i30 Fastback competes with models like the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf. The Ford Focus offers a trunk volume of about 13.2 cu ft, while the Volkswagen Golf has around 13.4 cu ft.

In comparison, the i30 Fastback has a clear advantage in trunk volume, making it more attractive for buyers who value cargo space.

More Affordable Alternatives

More affordable models with similar trunk dimensions include the Dacia Sandero and the Skoda Fabia. The Dacia Sandero offers a trunk volume of about 11.6 cu ft, while the Skoda Fabia has around 13.4 cu ft.

These models are generally cheaper but do not offer the same combination of features and performance as the Hyundai i30 Fastback. Buyers looking for good value for money should consider these alternatives.

Trunk Volume

The Hyundai i30 Fastback (2020) offers a trunk volume of 15.9 cu ft (manufacturer specification). This is about 7.14% larger than an average car and accounts for around 7.9% of the total vehicle volume — 1.5 percentage points more than average.

Everyday impact: The volume comfortably accommodates a week's worth of groceries, travel suitcases for 2–3 people, or a stroller with some planning.

For very bulky or tall items, the volume is decent, but the Fastback body style can limit usable height at the rear; in such cases, rearranging or folding the rear seats is necessary.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Dimensions: 175.6 in length, 70.9 in width, 56.3 in height.

Compared to an average car, the i30 Fastback is 4.3 in shorter (-2.3%), 2.4 in narrower (-3%), and 5.5 in lower (-8.9%). It is also 21.7 in shorter and 28 in narrower than a standard parking space.

Everyday impact: Shorter and narrower exterior dimensions improve maneuverability and parking in the city — parking in tight spots is easier, and driveway width is less critical.

The lower build looks sporty and can lower the center of gravity but may reduce headroom and the ability to load very tall items without care.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

With 15.9 cu ft, the i30 Fastback ranks in the upper half of the compact class for cargo volume. The absolute liter figure says little about shape and loadability; typical limitations of Fastback models include a sloping roofline and thus less usable height in the rear area.

Practical consequences: Luggage for trips, larger shopping, or strollers can be stored well; very bulky, tall, or long items often require folding rear seats or clever packing. For users regularly transporting large loads, wagons/SUVs usually offer more flexibility.

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Hyundai i30 is an established model in the compact class; the Fastback variant emphasizes a sportier, coupe-like profile.

Special Features / Characteristics: Sporty low silhouette combined with comparatively large trunk volume (15.9 cu ft) — a good compromise between design and everyday usability. The reduced vehicle height affects entry/exit and loading capacity for tall items.

Price-Performance Ratio: The above-average trunk volume for the class supports good everyday usability and thus a solid price-performance ratio, especially for buyers seeking everyday practicality without SUV size.

Competitor Models: Typical competitors are compact models like VW Golf, Ford Focus, Opel Astra, and Kia Ceed. Compared to them, the i30 Fastback stands out for its combination of compact exterior dimensions and relatively large cargo space.
