Trunk dimensions Jaguar XJ

The trunk of the 2010 Jaguar XJ sedan offers a volume of about 17.7 cu ft. With the rear seats folded down, the volume can vary, with some sources indicating up to 42.4 cu ft.

The rear bench is split 60:40, providing flexibility for transporting larger items. The interior is designed with high-quality materials and thoughtful ergonomics.

Trunk dimensions may vary slightly within the model range, but the shape remains consistently elegant and aerodynamic. The loading edge is relatively low, making loading and unloading easier.

Practical features such as an electric trunk lid are also present, enhancing comfort. Overall, the Jaguar XJ's trunk combines appealing aesthetics with functional characteristics.

Model Information

The Jaguar XJ is a luxury sedan known for its elegant design and advanced technology. The latest series of the XJ combines sporty performance with a comfortable interior.

It offers a variety of amenities, including premium materials and state-of-the-art infotainment systems. The XJ is designed for both business travelers and private drivers, standing out with its distinctive silhouette and dynamic driving characteristics.

Variants of the Same Series

The Jaguar XJ is mainly offered as a sedan. However, there are other models in the Jaguar lineup, such as the Jaguar XF and the Jaguar F-Type, which are available in various body styles.

These models differ in size, price, and target audience, so they should not be confused with the XJ. The XJ remains Jaguar's flagship sedan, while other models serve different market segments.

Yearly Differences

Over the years, there have been several model changes to the Jaguar XJ that have affected body and trunk dimensions. The most significant changes occurred in 2010 and 2015 when the XJ received a comprehensive facelift.

These changes led to a slight increase in trunk space and improved overall vehicle dimensions. It is important to consider these differences when purchasing a used model to ensure the correct size and functionality.

Direct Competitors

In the luxury sedan class, the Jaguar XJ competes with models such as the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and Audi A8. These vehicles offer similar sizes and price ranges, but trunk volumes vary.

For example, the BMW 7 Series has a trunk volume of about 18.2 cu ft, while the Mercedes-Benz S-Class offers around 17.7 cu ft. The Audi A8 is also in a similar range. These differences can be decisive for buyers who need to transport a lot of luggage.

More Affordable Alternatives

For buyers looking for more affordable alternatives with similar trunk dimensions, models like the Volkswagen Passat or Skoda Superb might be considered.

The Passat offers a trunk volume of about 20.7 cu ft, while the Superb provides up to 22.1 cu ft. Although these vehicles are not in the same luxury segment as the Jaguar XJ, they offer good value for money and sufficient space for luggage and cargo.

Jaguar XJ trunk space volume — Trunk volume Jaguar XJ

Trunk Volume

The trunk holds 16.9 cu ft (manufacturer specification). This is about 13.8% more than an average car. Relative to the vehicle volume (L×W×H/2), the trunk accounts for approximately 6.7%, which is about 0.3 percentage points more than average.

Practical implications: For everyday use, this volume means good usability — space for groceries, 2–3 medium-sized suitcases, or a stroller is realistic. The extra capacity compared to average provides additional storage for vacation luggage or larger shopping trips.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

The dimensions are 202 in length, 74.8 in width, and 57.5 in height. This makes the vehicle 22.4 in longer (+12.5%), 2 in wider (+2.6%), and 3.9 in lower (−6.6%) than an average car.

For everyday use, this means: The long body makes maneuvering more difficult and requires more space when parking; tight city centers and narrow garages are less comfortable.

At the same time, the width (74.8 in) is advantageous compared to typical parking spaces — according to the fact sheet, the car is 5.1 in longer and 23.6 in narrower than a standard parking spot, meaning it usually fits well in width but may face length constraints (overhang in front/behind the spot).

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

The ratio of trunk to vehicle volume shows efficient space utilization (6.7%). In practice:

Everyday luggage and shopping: very suitable — capacity is above the segment average.
Long/oversized items: limited, as it is a sedan (pass-through opening and seat configuration determine actual flexibility).
Travel and weekend use: comfortable; if needed, a roof rack or cargo box is recommended for bulky loads.

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Jaguar XJ sedan is the brand's luxury flagship and stands for elegant design and comfort.

Special features and characteristics: Typical are the long, low silhouette (low height) and a strong design focus, which is also reflected in the dimensions (longer and lower than usual).

Price-performance ratio: Positioned as a premium sedan, the model targets buyers who value design, comfort, and prestige over maximum practicality. Compared to compact or mid-size models, the price is correspondingly higher.

Competitors: Direct competitors include Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Audi A8.
