Trunk dimensions Kia Soul EV

The Kia e-Soul 2019 offers a trunk volume of about 11.1 cu ft, which can be expanded up to 47.3 cu ft when the rear seats are folded down.

The rear bench is split 60:40, allowing flexibility when transporting larger items. The interior is functionally designed, with a high loading edge that facilitates access to the trunk.

The shape of the trunk is rectangular, optimizing the use of space. Within the model range, there are slight variations in trunk dimensions, but they generally provide similar practicality. The equipment is well thought out, with various storage options that further increase the cargo space.

Model Information

The Kia e-Soul is a compact electric subcompact car characterized by its distinctive design and innovative technologies. The latest series offers a combination of efficiency, comfort, and a high level of functionality.

With an electric drive system, the e-Soul is not only environmentally friendly but also optimized for urban use. The equipment includes modern infotainment systems, safety features, and an appealing interior design.

Variants of the Same Series

The Kia e-Soul is offered in various trim levels that differ in terms of performance, equipment, and price. However, there are no other body variants such as sedan or convertible within the e-Soul range. The e-Soul remains a hatchback model, distinguishing it from other Kia models like the Kia Ceed or the Kia Stinger.

Model Year Differences

The Kia e-Soul was introduced in its current form in 2019. Since then, there have been some adjustments in equipment and technology, but the body dimensions and trunk volume have remained largely constant.

Earlier models, such as the first generation of the e-Soul, showed significant differences in dimensions, which also affected the trunk volume. However, the latest generation offers improved space utilization.

Direct Competitors

In the same vehicle class, the Kia e-Soul competes among others with the Nissan Leaf and the Hyundai Kona Electric. The Nissan Leaf offers a trunk volume of about 15.4 cu ft, making it superior in this regard.

The Hyundai Kona Electric, on the other hand, has a trunk volume of around 11.7 cu ft, making it somewhat roomier than the e-Soul but not as much as the Leaf. These differences can be decisive for buyers who value cargo space.

More Affordable Alternatives

More affordable models with similar trunk dimensions are the Dacia Sandero and the Skoda Fabia. The Dacia Sandero offers a trunk volume of about 11.6 cu ft, while the Skoda Fabia reaches about 13.4 cu ft.

These models are generally cheaper to purchase but do not offer the same electric drive technology as the Kia e-Soul. Buyers looking for good value for money might consider these alternatives.

Trunk Volume

The Kia e‑Soul (2020) has a trunk volume of approximately 11.1 cu ft (manufacturer specification). This volume is about 25% below the average for a car. Relative to the total vehicle volume (calculated as L×W×H/2), the trunk accounts for about 5.2% — 1.3 percentage points less than average.

Practical impact: The smaller volume means less space for bulky items and larger luggage. For everyday shopping, handbags, or small travel bags, the volume is sufficient; for larger vacation luggage or bulky furniture, there are rather limitations.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Dimensions: 165.4 in long, 70.9 in wide, 63.4 in high. Compared to an average car, the e‑Soul is 14.6 in shorter (-8%), 2 in narrower (-2.7%), and 1.6 in taller (+2.6%).

Compared to a typical parking space, the vehicle is 31.9 in shorter and 27.6 in narrower, making parking and short maneuvers in inner-city areas easier.

Practical impact: The compact exterior dimensions increase everyday usability in cities — easier parking, better maneuverability, and more clearance in parking spaces. The slightly greater height can contribute to a slightly increased sense of space inside but does not change the limited trunk volume.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

The main limitation is the total trunk volume of 11.1 cu ft. This means:

Everyday use: Everyday shopping, backpacks, strollers with compact folding, and smaller suitcases are well manageable.
Limits: Bulky, long, or voluminous items are significantly restricted — before purchase or larger transports, dimensions should be compared.
Relative ratio: Because the trunk only accounts for 5.2% of the vehicle volume (below average), the cargo compartment is smaller relative to interior size than in many competitors.

Recommendation: Those who frequently plan larger transports (e.g., furniture, lots of luggage) should check the dimensions of individual items or consider a larger segment.

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Kia e‑Soul is the electric version of the Kia Soul and positions itself as a compact, urban electric subcompact car.

Special features / characteristics: Compact exterior dimensions with comparatively small trunk volume — a good compromise for city drivers, less suitable for frequent large transports.

Price-performance: Depending on equipment and battery size, the e‑Soul typically delivers an urban, space-saving package; buyers should weigh the limited cargo volume against easy parking and city suitability.

Competitor models: Comparable alternatives in the compact electric segment include models like Renault Zoe, Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Kona Electric, or Peugeot e‑208 — depending on the model, these offer partly similar city comfort, partly more trunk space.
