Trunk dimensions Lexus IS Convertible

The trunk of the 2009 Lexus IS Convertible offers a volume of about 7.1 cu ft, which is typical for a convertible.

With the rear seats folded down, the volume can be increased to around 14.1 cu ft; however, the rear bench is not foldable continuously, which limits flexibility. The rear bench is split 50:50, allowing some variability but not optimal for larger items.

The interior is designed with high quality, featuring elegant workmanship that underscores the vehicle's luxury. The trunk dimensions vary slightly within the model range, with the IS Convertible having a more compact shape compared to other variants.

The loading edge is relatively high, which can make loading more difficult, while practicality is limited by the restricted opening and volume.

Model Information

The Lexus IS is a sporty mid-size car known for its combination of luxury, performance, and reliability. The latest series of the IS, available as a convertible, offers an elegant design, advanced technology, and a comfortable driving environment.

The equipment includes high-quality materials, modern infotainment systems, and a variety of safety features that enhance driving comfort and safety.

Variants of the Same Series

The Lexus IS is available in several variants, including sedan and convertible. It is important not to confuse these models, as they have different body styles and thus different characteristics regarding space and trunk volume.

The sedan generally offers more storage space, while the convertible focuses on a sportier design and an open driving experience.

Yearly Differences

Changes in model years can affect body dimensions and trunk volume. In recent years, there have been several facelifts and technical updates that influenced the design and functionality of the IS.

Especially models from 2018 onward received a revision affecting both exterior appearance and interior design, but without significant changes in trunk volume.

Direct Competition

In the same price class and size, the Lexus IS Convertible competes with models like the BMW 4 Series Convertible and the Audi A5 Convertible.

The BMW 4 Series offers a trunk volume of about 10.6 cu ft, while the Audi A5 Convertible provides around 13.4 cu ft. These differences in trunk volume can be decisive for buyers who value storage space.

More Affordable Alternatives

More affordable models with similar trunk dimensions include the Ford Mustang Convertible and the Mazda MX-5. The Ford Mustang Convertible offers a trunk volume of about 10.6 cu ft, while the Mazda MX-5 is somewhat smaller at about 4.6 cu ft.

These alternatives may be interesting for buyers seeking good value for money but willing to forego some luxury features.

Trunk Volume

The trunk of the 2017 Lexus IS Sedan holds 15.9 cu ft according to the manufacturer. This is about 7.14% larger than an average car and accounts for around 7.4% of the total vehicle volume (LxWxH/2) — about 1 percentage point above average.

Everyday impact: The volume is slightly above average, making the trunk well suited for daily shopping, luggage for weekend trips (typically 2–3 suitcases), and bulky purchases. For very large or bulky items, sedan trunks are generally less flexible than wagons or SUVs.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Dimensions: 184.3 in length, 71.3 in width, 56.3 in height.

Compared to an average car: the vehicle is about 4.7 in longer (+2.6%), 1.6 in narrower (-2.2%), and 5.1 in lower (-8.6%) than an average car. Compared to a standard parking space, the IS is 12.6 in shorter and 27.2 in narrower.

Everyday impact: The moderate length helps with turning maneuvers and parking in tight city spaces; the narrower width improves accessibility in tight parking spots.

The lower body positively affects aerodynamics and seating height but can make loading very tall items more difficult. Overall, the IS is parking-friendly for urban use.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

The stated volume of 15.9 cu ft is practically usable for everyday needs and travel for two people in a sedan of this class. Since it is a classic sedan trunk, the following general notes apply (not further specified in the fact package):

Horizontal loading surface offers good space for suitcases and bags but fewer pass-through options than wagons/hatchbacks.
The low vehicle height can limit usable interior height in the trunk—tall items should be checked.
Those regularly transporting very long or bulky items should check if the rear seatbacks fold down (not specified in the available facts).

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Lexus IS is Lexus’s compact premium sedan positioned in the upper mid-size segment.

Special features / peculiarities: No further equipment or technical details are included in the current fact package. Additional manufacturer information would be needed to assess comfort, assistance systems, or trunk accessibility.

Value for money: Not included in the fact package. Generally, the Lexus IS competes in the segment with brands like BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes C-Class; detailed price and equipment comparisons require specific offer data.
