Trunk dimensions Lexus RC

The trunk of the 2016 Lexus RC coupe offers a volume of about 12 cu ft, which is typical for a sports coupe. With the rear seats folded down, which are not standardly foldable, the storage space cannot be significantly expanded. The rear bench is designed as a 2+2 seating configuration, which limits passenger space.

The interior design is high-quality, with elegant finishes and practical storage compartments. The trunk dimensions do not vary much within the model range, with the shape being rather flat and the loading edge relatively high, making loading more difficult.

Overall, the trunk of the Lexus RC is functional but not particularly spacious compared to other vehicles in this class.

Model Information

The Lexus RC is a sporty coupe that was first introduced in 2014. It combines elegant design with powerful engines and a high-quality interior. The latest series of the Lexus RC offers a variety of technologies that enhance both driving comfort and safety.

With a focus on driving dynamics and style, the model targets buyers seeking a sporty driving experience without sacrificing luxury and comfort.

Variants of the Same Series

The Lexus RC is mainly offered as a coupe. However, there is also a more powerful variant, the Lexus RC F, which features a stronger engine and sporty accents.

Confusion with other Lexus models such as the Lexus IS or Lexus LC should be avoided, as these have different body styles and target groups. The IS is a sedan, while the LC is a luxury coupe positioned in the upper price segment.

Yearly Differences

Model changes affecting body and trunk dimensions mainly occurred in 2018 and 2021. In 2018, the model received a facelift that included some design changes and technical updates but no significant changes to trunk volume.

In 2021, an updated version of the RC was introduced, which also brought no essential changes to trunk dimensions but improved equipment and technology.

Direct Competition

In the same price range and size, the Lexus RC competes with models like the BMW 4 Series coupe and the Audi A5. The BMW 4 Series offers a trunk volume of about 15.5 cu ft, making it superior in this regard.

The Audi A5, on the other hand, has a volume of about 16.4 cu ft. Both models thus provide more cargo space than the Lexus RC, which could be a decisive factor for buyers who value trunk volume.

More Affordable Alternatives

More affordable alternatives with similar trunk dimensions include the Ford Mustang and the Toyota GT86. The Ford Mustang offers a trunk volume of about 14.4 cu ft, making it an attractive option for buyers seeking a sporty coupe but without the budget for a Lexus RC.

The Toyota GT86, however, has a trunk volume of about 8.6 cu ft, making it less practical but still offering sporty driving dynamics.

Trunk Volume

The trunk volume of the 2019 Lexus RC coupe is 12 cu ft (manufacturer specification). This is about 19.05% smaller than an average passenger car. Relative to the vehicle volume, the trunk accounts for around 5.6% of the total volume, 0.9 percentage points less than average.

Everyday impact: For shopping, luggage for two people, or a sports bag, the volume is generally sufficient. For large suitcases, bulky boxes, or furniture pieces, the trunk reaches its limits more quickly.

Those who frequently need to transport longer or taller loads will perceive the limited capacity as a disadvantage.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Dimensions: 185 in length, 72.4 in width, 55.1 in height.

Comparison to average: The vehicle is about 5.5 in longer, 0.4 in narrower, and 6.7 in lower than a typical car.

Comparison to parking space: According to data, the vehicle is about 11.8 in shorter and 26 in narrower than a standard parking space, meaning it generally fits into standard parking spots and still leaves space in front/behind or on the sides.

Everyday impact: The increased length may require more attention when maneuvering or in tight garages; the slight width difference is practically negligible. The significantly lower build improves appearance and driving dynamics but restricts interior height and thus ease of entry/exit and visibility somewhat.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

As a coupe, the RC is not primarily designed for maximum loading flexibility. The combination of limited volume (12 cu ft) and low body height reduces usable height in the cargo area and makes loading tall or bulky items more difficult.

Everyday impact: Large, bulky items (e.g., large suitcases, moving boxes, tall plants) are harder to store. For everyday use — shopping, sports or business luggage — the trunk is usually sufficient, but alternative transport solutions (roof box, trailer, larger vehicles) should be considered if needed.

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Lexus RC coupe is positioned as a stylish premium coupe from Lexus and is recognized for design, build quality, and comfort.

Special features / characteristics: Typical for coupes are a low roofline and sporty body design; this positively affects appearance and driving feel but limits space and headroom.

Price-performance ratio: Lexus offers premium equipment and durability; buyers pay a premium compared to mid-range models but receive quality, comfort, and a high level of equipment in return.

Competitor models: Direct competitors are other premium coupes such as the BMW 4 Series (coupe), Audi A5, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe. These offer comparable equipment, with varying strengths in driving dynamics, handling, or interior practicality.
