Trunk dimensions Mercedes-Benz AMG GT

The trunk of the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Coupé 2016 offers a volume of about 12.4 cu ft. With the rear seats folded down, the volume can vary; however, the seats are not foldable, which limits flexibility.

The rear bench is a fixed unit designed with a sporty layout. The interior features high-quality craftsmanship with leather and aluminum, giving the vehicle a luxurious ambiance.

The trunk dimensions remain largely consistent within the model range, with a focus on sporty design. The loading edge is relatively high, making loading more difficult, while the shape of the trunk is rather flat and wide.

Practical solutions such as tie-down rings are present, but the trunk is primarily designed for aesthetics and performance, which limits everyday usability.

Model Information

The Mercedes Benz AMG GT Coupé is a high-performance sports car known for its combination of power, design, and technology. The latest series of the AMG GT offers powerful engines, precise driving dynamics, and a distinctive aerodynamic design.

With a focus on driving pleasure and luxury, the model targets discerning drivers who expect outstanding performance both on the road and on the racetrack.

Variants of the Same Series

The AMG GT is available in several variants, including the AMG GT Roadster and the AMG GT Black Series. These models differ in body style, performance, and equipment.

While the Coupé offers a fixed roof structure, the Roadster allows for an open driving experience. The Black Series represents the sportiest variant, designed for maximum performance and racetrack suitability.

Yearly Differences

Changes to the body and trunk dimensions of the AMG GT have been made in various model years. The first generation was introduced in 2015, and since then there have been several facelifts and technical updates.

In particular, models from 2019 onward received adjustments in aerodynamics and interior, which can also affect trunk design. It is important to compare specific model years to understand the exact differences in dimensions.

Direct Competitors

In the same price range and size category, models such as the Porsche 911 and Aston Martin Vantage are found. The Porsche 911 offers a trunk volume of about 4.7 cu ft in the front area, which is significantly less than the AMG GT.

The Aston Martin Vantage, on the other hand, has a trunk volume of about 7.1 cu ft, which is also below the AMG GT’s volume. These differences can be decisive for buyers who value storage space.

More Affordable Alternatives

For buyers seeking similar trunk dimensions as the AMG GT but with a smaller budget, models like the BMW Z4 or the Ford Mustang could be considered.

The BMW Z4 offers a trunk volume of about 9.9 cu ft, while the Ford Mustang boasts about 14.4 cu ft. These vehicles provide a good combination of performance and cargo space but are generally more affordable than the AMG GT.

Trunk space Mercedes-Benz AMG GT

Trunk Volume

The trunk volume according to the fact sheet is approximately 14 cu ft. However, there are significantly differing figures: the manufacturer states 11.8 cu ft, while independent measurements show 16.1 cu ft.

Such discrepancies arise from different measurement methods and the question of which area of the cargo space (e.g., up to the window line, including irregular niches or lower compartments) is counted.

Compared to the average car, the volume is 5.83% smaller. The trunk accounts for about 5.7% of the total vehicle volume, which is 0.8 percentage points less than the average.

Everyday impact: The volume is sufficient for shopping trips or short vacations, but with several large suitcases or bulky items, the AMG GT reaches its limits faster than a typical wagon or minivan. Due to the coupé body style, the usable shape is often less practical than the nominal volume suggests.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Dimensions: 198.8 in length, 73.6 in width, 57.5 in height.

Compared to the average car, the vehicle is 19.3 in longer (≈10.8%), 0.8 in wider (≈1.1%), and 4.3 in lower (≈-7%).

Relative to a standard parking space, the AMG GT is about 2 in longer than the assumed parking length and 24.8 in narrower than the parking width.

Everyday impact: The length makes maneuvering and parking in tight inner-city spots more challenging; narrow parking spaces are more tolerable since the car is relatively slim.

The low profile improves aerodynamics and appearance but can worsen entering/exiting underground garages (turning space, ramps) and visibility.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

The coupé-typical roofline and low height lead to a less cubic cargo space shape, often resulting in less usable space in practice than the liter figures suggest. The large discrepancy between manufacturer and external measurements also indicates irregular space geometries.

Practical consequences:

Good suitability for shopping, sports bags, and two to three suitcases (depending on size and packing).
Bulky, tall items are difficult to load due to low opening and limited interior height.
Those who frequently transport long or very bulky items are better served with a wagon or SUV.

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Mercedes‑Benz AMG GT Coupé (2021) is widely known as a sporty top coupé from AMG and stands for performance, design, and driving dynamics.

Special features: Sporty proportions, low silhouette, and driving-dynamics-oriented tuning are characteristic. The coupé shape favors appearance and driving behavior but limits everyday usability and cargo space practicality.

Characteristics: Noticeable discrepancies in trunk figures (manufacturer vs. independent measurements) as well as the combination of great length and low height are typical and influence parking and usability.

Price-performance ratio: The model is offered as a premium positioned sports coupé — focus lies on driving performance and image rather than practical versatility.

Competitor models: Typical competitors are the Porsche 911, the Aston Martin Vantage, and the Jaguar F‑Type — vehicles with a similar focus on sportiness and styling, also with limited practicality compared to everyday cars.
