Trunk dimensions Subaru BRZ

The 2023 Subaru BRZ offers a trunk with a volume of about 8 cu ft. With the rear seat folded down, split 60:40, the cargo space increases, but the exact volume varies depending on the configuration.

The rear seat is sportily designed, which makes access to the trunk somewhat difficult, but the shape remains functional.

The loading edge is relatively low, which facilitates loading. The interior design focuses on driving enjoyment, with the trunk more suitable for smaller luggage.

The trunk dimensions remain consistent within the model range, though differences in equipment and model years may occur. Overall, the BRZ's trunk is practical but limited in capacity, typical for sports coupes.

Model Information

The Subaru BRZ is a sporty coupe known for its agile driving dynamics and appealing design. The latest series offers improved performance and a modern interior that combines comfort and functionality.

The BRZ is equipped with a 2.4-liter boxer engine that enables balanced weight distribution and a low driving feel. The combination of rear-wheel drive and precise chassis ensures a sporty driving experience.

Variants of the Same Series

The Subaru BRZ is offered solely as a coupe and has no other variants such as sedan, convertible, or wagon. This distinguishes it from other models in Subaru's portfolio that offer different body styles. Buyers should be aware that the BRZ is specifically designed for sporty performance and driving pleasure.

Model Year Differences

The Subaru BRZ was first introduced in 2012, with several model changes in subsequent years. The second generation, launched in 2021, brought some adjustments in body dimensions, but the trunk dimensions remained relatively constant. Changes mainly focused on improving driving dynamics and technical equipment.

Direct Competitors

In the same price range and size, models like the Toyota GR86 and Mazda MX-5 are found. The Toyota GR86 has a similar trunk volume of about 7.5 cu ft, while the Mazda MX-5, designed as a roadster, only offers 4.6 cu ft of trunk space. These differences are important for buyers who value cargo space.

More Affordable Alternatives

More affordable models with similar trunk dimensions include the Ford Mustang and Hyundai Veloster. The Ford Mustang offers a trunk volume of about 13.5 cu ft, making it an attractive option for buyers needing more cargo space.

The Hyundai Veloster has a trunk volume of about 14.2 cu ft, also positioning it as a practical alternative.

Trunk space Subaru BRZ

Subaru BRZ trunk space volume — Trunk volume Subaru BRZ

Trunk Volume

The trunk volume is 8.4 cu ft (manufacturer specification). This is -43.57% less than an average car. The trunk accounts for only about 4.8% of the total vehicle volume (LxWxH/2), which is -1.7 percentage points below the average.

Everyday effect: The volume is compact — suitable for daily shopping, a small travel bag, or two carry-on suitcases. For larger shopping trips, bulky items, or longer vacations, the space is quickly used up.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Exterior dimensions: 168.1 in length, 70.1 in width, 51.6 in height.

Compared to average: The vehicle is 11.8 in shorter (-6.5%), 3.1 in narrower (-4.1%), and 9.8 in lower (-16.2%) than an average car. Compared to a standard parking space, it is 29.1 in shorter and 28.7 in narrower.

Everyday effect: The more compact length and width make parking and maneuvering in the city easier — especially in tight parking spots. The low height provides a sporty silhouette but can limit entry and exit, headroom inside, and outward visibility.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

Due to the small volume, the usability of the trunk is limited. Small shopping bags, backpacks, and carry-on luggage are no problem; larger suitcases or bulky items quickly occupy the entire space.

Everyday effect: For couples or individuals who mostly drive short distances, city traffic, and sporty rides, the volume is often sufficient. Families or users with regular transport needs for larger items should consider additional solutions (roof box, trailer) or a larger vehicle.

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Subaru BRZ coupe is known as a compact, driving dynamics-oriented coupe and is often praised for its handling.

Special Features / Characteristics: Typical are the sporty low stance and stretched coupe profile (low height), which lead to dynamic driving behavior but reduce interior utility.

Price-Performance Ratio: In the compact sports coupe segment, the BRZ is often considered an affordable, driving pleasure-oriented option — with compromises in space and practicality.

Competitor Models: Direct competitor is the Toyota GR86. Comparable alternatives in the small sports car segment include models like the Mazda MX-5 (roadster) — each model making different compromises in space, practicality, and driving character.
