Trunk dimensions Subaru Crosstrek

The Subaru Crosstrek 2024 offers a trunk with a volume of about 20.8 cu ft with the rear seats up and up to 60 cu ft with the seats folded down. The rear bench is split 60:40, allowing flexibility when transporting luggage. The interior is functionally designed, with a low loading edge for easy loading and unloading.

The trunk dimensions vary within the model range, with the shape typically rectangular, optimizing the use of cargo space.

Practical details such as tie-down hooks and a removable cover are present to secure the load and organize the space. The Crosstrek thus combines functionality with an appealing design, making it a versatile SUV for various needs.

Model Information

The Subaru Crosstrek is a compact SUV characterized by its versatility and robustness. The latest series offers a combination of modern design, advanced technology, and a high level of safety.

With all-wheel drive and increased ground clearance, the Crosstrek is suitable for both urban and rural environments. The interior is functional and comfortable, focusing on user-friendliness and ergonomics.

Variants of the Same Line

The Subaru Crosstrek is mainly offered as an SUV. There are no sedan, convertible, or hatchback versions of the Crosstrek that could be confused with this model. However, the different trim levels of the Crosstrek offer various features and options tailored to buyers' needs.

Yearly Differences

The Subaru Crosstrek has undergone several model changes over the years. The most significant changes affecting body dimensions and trunk measurements occurred in 2018 and 2023. In 2018, the design was revised and the dimensions slightly adjusted, resulting in an improved interior and trunk volume.

The 2023 version brought further optimizations in space layout and equipment, enhancing the comfort and functionality of the trunk.

Direct Competitors

In the compact SUV segment, the Subaru Crosstrek competes with models like the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, and Toyota C-HR. The Honda HR-V offers a trunk volume of about 58.8 cu ft with folded seats, positioning it slightly above the Crosstrek in this regard.

The Mazda CX-30, on the other hand, has a trunk volume of around 54 cu ft, making it somewhat smaller compared to the Crosstrek. The Toyota C-HR offers 50.9 cu ft of cargo space, making it less practical for transporting larger items.

More Affordable Alternatives

For buyers looking for more affordable alternatives with similar trunk dimensions, models like the Kia Seltos or Hyundai Kona might be interesting. The Kia Seltos offers a trunk volume of about 62.8 cu ft with folded seats, making it an attractive option.

The Hyundai Kona has a trunk volume of around 45.8 cu ft, which is smaller than the Crosstrek. Both models are generally less expensive than the Crosstrek but offer similar functionalities in the compact SUV segment.

Cargo space Subaru Crosstrek

Subaru Crosstrek trunk space volume — Trunk volume Subaru Crosstrek

Trunk Volume

The trunk volume is 11.1 cu ft (manufacturer specification). This is about -25% smaller than an average car. Relative to the total vehicle volume, the trunk accounts for around 4.9%, which is -1.6 percentage points less than average.

Everyday impact: With 11.1 cu ft, the cargo space for groceries, children's sports equipment, or travel suitcases is more limited than in many compact or mid-size cars. For longer trips or bulky items, folding down the rear seat or considering additional solutions (roof box, luggage rack) will often be necessary.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Exterior dimensions: 177.2 in length, 70.9 in width, 63 in height.

Compared to the average car, the Crosstrek is 2.8 in shorter (-1.4%), 2 in narrower (-2.7%), and 1.6 in taller (+2.3%). Compared to a standard parking space, the vehicle is 20.1 in shorter and 27.6 in narrower.

Everyday impact: The more compact length and width make maneuvering and parking in tight urban areas easier. The significantly smaller footprint compared to the parking space means more distance to neighboring vehicles when parking.

The slightly greater height is hardly relevant in normal garages but may be a consideration in very low parking spots.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

The relatively small volume makes usability crucial: for everyday use, there is enough space for small to medium groceries, strollers in some versions, or a weekend suitcase. Flexible solutions are needed for larger transports.

For bulky items, folding down the rear seats will regularly be necessary.
Those frequently traveling with a lot of luggage should consider roof cargo solutions or optional storage space.
Packing strategy: space-saving luggage, soft bags instead of hard suitcases, and modular storage compartments increase everyday practicality.

General Model Information

The data package primarily provides volume and exterior dimension data; no information is available on equipment, price, engine options, or popularity.

Assessment based on dimensions: The Crosstrek is to be classified as a compact SUV — compact exterior dimensions with moderate interior/trunk space. This makes it attractive for buyers who want to combine city- and everyday-oriented off-road capability with manageable space requirements.

Price-performance and equipment evaluations cannot be derived from the available data. Usual competitors in this segment are other compact SUVs (e.g., models from Toyota, Honda, or Mazda), which tend to offer similar pros and cons regarding cargo space and parking behavior.
