Trunk dimensions Subaru Forester

The Subaru Forester 2022 offers a trunk with a volume of about 63.6 cu ft when the rear seats are folded down, and around 31.8 cu ft with the rear bench upright.

The rear bench is split 60:40, allowing flexibility when transporting luggage. The interior is functionally designed, with a high loading lip that facilitates access.

The trunk dimensions vary within the model range, but the basic shape remains square, optimizing usability. Typical features include a robust construction and a practical arrangement of storage areas that make everyday life easier.

The Forester is known for its good accessibility and well-thought-out storage space, making it a practical choice in the SUV segment.

Model Information

The Subaru Forester is a compact SUV known for its versatility and robustness. The latest series offers a combination of modern design, advanced technology, and a high level of safety.

With all-wheel drive as a standard feature, the Forester is especially suitable for drivers who want to venture off paved roads. The latest generation also emphasizes environmental friendliness, with hybrid options that reduce fuel consumption.

Variants of the Same Series

The Subaru Forester is mainly offered as an SUV. Unlike other Subaru models, such as the Impreza, which is available in variants like sedan and hatchback, the Forester focuses exclusively on the SUV segment.

This means buyers do not have to choose between different body styles with the Forester, simplifying the decision-making process.

Yearly Differences

The Subaru Forester has undergone several model changes over the years that have affected body and trunk dimensions. The current generation, introduced in 2019, offers a larger trunk volume and improved dimensions compared to earlier models like the 2018 version.

Previous generations, especially models from 2014 to 2018, had smaller trunk capacities and less well-thought-out interior configurations.

Direct Competition

In the same price range and size, the Subaru Forester competes with models like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. The Honda CR-V offers a trunk volume of about 39.2 cu ft with folded seats, making it superior in this regard.

The Toyota RAV4, on the other hand, has a trunk volume of about 38.8 cu ft. These differences can be decisive for buyers who need a lot of cargo space.

More Affordable Alternatives

For buyers looking for more affordable alternatives with similar trunk dimensions, models like the Dacia Duster and Kia Seltos are worth mentioning.

The Dacia Duster offers a trunk volume of about 16.9 cu ft, while the Kia Seltos provides about 17.6 cu ft. Both models are generally cheaper than the Subaru Forester but offer less trunk space.

Subaru Forester trunk space volume — Trunk volume Subaru Forester

Trunk Volume

The Subaru Forester 2025 offers a trunk volume of 17.9 cu ft (manufacturer specification). This corresponds to +20.95% compared to an average car. Relative to the assumed vehicle volume (L×W×H/2), the trunk accounts for 6.9%, about 0.5 percentage points more than average.

Practical significance: The volume is above the segment average and allows for more luggage, shopping, or equipment without immediately folding down seats. For family or leisure use, this means noticeably more usable space in everyday life.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Exterior dimensions: 183.9 in length, 72 in width, 68.1 in height.

Comparison to average car: +4.3 in (2.4%) in length, -0.8 in (-1.1%) in width, +6.7 in (10.6%) in height.

Parking space relation: According to data, the vehicle is 13 in shorter and 26.4 in narrower than a standard parking space—enough room for standard parking spots, but the width allows only limited lateral clearance when entering and exiting.

Practical significance: The slightly greater length makes tight maneuvers in the city somewhat more challenging, but the slightly reduced width helps when passing narrow streets.

The significantly higher vehicle height improves interior and headroom but may restrict parking garages with very low ceilings or automatic parking systems.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

The volume of 17.9 cu ft offers concrete advantages in everyday life: more space for shopping volume, strollers, sports equipment, or multiple suitcases without immediately folding down the rear bench. The increased vehicle height additionally supports vertical packing capacity, facilitating bulky or tall items.

Important notes on usability:

The pure liter figure says nothing about opening width, loading lip, or trunk shape—these points determine the stowage of large, bulky items.
Those who regularly transport long items should check the loading opening and folding dimensions of the rear seat bench.
For families and leisure users, the volume offers good everyday utility; for frequently very large loads, detailed measurements (loading height, pass-through, seat adjustment) should be checked.

General Model Information

Reputation: The Subaru Forester is known as a compact SUV with strong practical relevance and has made a name for itself especially through reliability and utility value.

Special features / characteristics: Typical strengths of the model family are everyday suitability, high seating position, and good occupant protection. Subaru-typical is often an all-wheel-drive concept that improves driving safety and traction (specific equipment may vary by version).

Price-performance ratio: The combination of practical space, robustness, and modern technology usually positions the Forester solidly in the middle of its class—a good ratio of functionality to cost, especially for buyers who prioritize utility value.

Competitor models: Relevant competitors in the segment include Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen Tiguan, Mazda CX-5, and Honda CR-V—models that offer similar size, comfort, and utility.
