Trunk dimensions Subaru Impreza

The 2024 Subaru Impreza hatchback offers a trunk volume of about 20.8 cu ft with the rear seats folded down and around 15.3 cu ft in the normal state.

The rear bench is split 60:40, allowing flexibility when transporting larger items. The interior design is functional, with a low loading edge that makes loading easier.

Trunk dimensions vary slightly within the model range but remain similar compared to previous models. Typical features include a practical shape and solid lining that optimize the use of space. The trunk design emphasizes everyday usability, making the Impreza a practical choice for urban drivers.

Model Information

The Subaru Impreza is a compact car known for its reliability and all-wheel drive. The latest series of the Impreza, offered as a hatchback, combines sporty design with practical features.

The Impreza is suitable for both city driving and longer trips, offering a balanced mix of comfort and driving dynamics. The latest generation features modern technologies, improved safety features, and an appealing interior.

Variants of the Same Series

The Subaru Impreza is available in several variants, including the hatchback, sedan, and wagon. It is important not to confuse these models, as they have different body styles and thus different characteristics and uses.

The hatchback version is especially popular among younger buyers, while the sedan and wagon are attractive for families and frequent drivers.

Yearly Differences

Changes to the Subaru Impreza affecting body dimensions and trunk dimensions have been made in various model years. The most significant changes occurred in 2017 with the introduction of the fifth generation.

This generation brought an increase in vehicle dimensions, which also affected the trunk. Previous models had smaller dimensions and thus a smaller trunk volume.

Direct Competition

In the same vehicle class, the Subaru Impreza competes with models like the Volkswagen Golf and the Ford Focus. The Golf offers a trunk volume of about 13.4 cu ft, while the Focus is slightly smaller at about 13.2 cu ft.

The Impreza stands out with its larger trunk volume and flexibility in transport, making it attractive to buyers who value cargo space.

More Affordable Alternatives

More affordable alternatives with similar trunk dimensions include the Dacia Sandero and the Kia Rio. The Sandero offers a trunk volume of about 11.6 cu ft, while the Kia Rio is slightly smaller at about 11.5 cu ft.

These models are generally cheaper to purchase but do not offer the same features or all-wheel drive that the Subaru Impreza provides.

Trunk Volume

The 2021 Subaru Impreza sedan has a trunk volume of 12 cu ft (manufacturer specification). Compared to the average car, the volume is about 19.05% smaller. The trunk accounts for approximately 5.8% of the total vehicle volume, which is 0.7 percentage points less than average.

Everyday use: 12 cu ft are sufficient for daily shopping and one to two suitcases but are rather limited for larger transports, extended vacations with lots of luggage, or extensive sports equipment. Buyers with regular loading needs should consider this smaller volume.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Exterior dimensions according to the fact sheet: 176.4 in length, 70.1 in width, 58.3 in height. Compared to the average car, the Impreza is:

3.5 in shorter (-1.9%)
3.1 in narrower (-4.1%)
3.1 in lower (-5.4%)

Important for practical use: the vehicle is significantly more compact than a typical parking space — it is 20.9 in shorter and even 28.7 in narrower than a normal parking spot. This makes parking and maneuvering in tight urban areas and underground garages easier and reduces the risk of scraping neighboring vehicles.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

With 12 cu ft, usability is limited compared to larger sedans or wagons. Specific effects:

Everyday shopping and smaller transport tasks are easily manageable.
For vacation trips with several people or bulky items, the loading capacity is limited; it may be necessary more often to store luggage inside the cabin or take less.
The fact that the trunk share of total volume is slightly below average indicates an overall balanced but not trunk-focused interior.

Conclusion: For buyers who rarely transport large loads and value compact exterior dimensions, the trunk size is acceptable. Those who regularly need a lot of luggage or large items should consider alternatives with larger cargo volume.

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Impreza is positioned in the compact sedan segment; its dimensions and trunk volume clearly place it in the compact class.

Special features / characteristics: The facts highlight the compact exterior design and the comparatively small trunk volume. The vehicle thus offers good parking friendliness with limited loading capacity.

Price-performance ratio: The fact sheet does not include specific price information. Generally, buyers should weigh whether the more compact design and handling compensate for the smaller trunk — depending on personal usage, the price-performance perception may vary.

Competitor models: In the same vehicle class, typical comparison models are compact sedans and compact hatchbacks.

Examples from the segment (typical competitors) include VW Golf, Toyota Corolla, or Honda Civic — these models often offer varying trunk volumes depending on the version and different focuses on comfort vs. loading capability.
