Trunk dimensions Subaru Crosstrek

The Subaru XV 2012 offers a trunk volume of about 13.4 cu ft, which can be expanded up to 44.8 cu ft by folding down the rear seats. The rear bench is split 60:40, allowing flexibility when transporting luggage. The interior is functionally designed, with a high loading lip that facilitates loading and unloading.

The trunk dimensions vary slightly within the model range but generally remain compact and practical. Typical features include robust construction and good accessibility, making the Subaru XV a versatile SUV for everyday use and leisure.

Model Information

The Subaru XV, also known as the Subaru Crosstrek in some markets, is a compact SUV characterized by its combination of functionality, all-wheel drive, and rugged design.

The latest series offers improved driving dynamics, modern technologies, and enhanced safety. With a distinctive exterior appearance and a comfortable interior, the Subaru XV targets buyers who want to explore both urban and rural environments.

Variants of the Same Series

The Subaru XV is mainly offered as an SUV. There are no other variants such as sedan or convertible within this model range that could cause confusion. The focus is on the SUV platform, known for its versatility and off-road capability.

Yearly Differences

Model changes of the Subaru XV affecting body and trunk dimensions mainly occurred between the model years 2012 and 2023. The first generation was introduced in 2012, while the second generation debuted in 2017. These changes brought an increase in trunk space and an adjustment of the body shape to improve aerodynamics and interior comfort.

Direct Competitors

Direct competitors of the Subaru XV include models like the Mazda CX-30 and Hyundai Kona. The Mazda CX-30 offers a trunk volume of about 15.2 cu ft, while the Hyundai Kona provides around 12.7 cu ft.

In comparison, the Subaru XV with its 20.8 cu ft has a clear advantage in cargo space, making it more attractive for buyers who need a lot of room.

More Affordable Alternatives

More affordable alternatives with similar trunk dimensions include the Dacia Duster and Skoda Kamiq. The Dacia Duster offers a trunk volume of about 16.9 cu ft, while the Skoda Kamiq provides approximately 14.1 cu ft.

These models are generally cheaper but offer less cargo space than the Subaru XV, which can be a decisive factor for buyers who value space.

Trunk Volume

The practical trunk volume of the Subaru XV 2021 varies depending on the measurement method between manufacturer and independent figures. Relevant values:

Manufacturer specification: 12 cu ft
Independent measurement: 13.6 cu ft
As an average of the figures: approx. 12.8 cu ft (this value is also mentioned in the fact sheet)

Comparison: This corresponds to -13.69% below the volume of an average car; the trunk accounts for just under 5.6% of the total vehicle volume, which is 0.9 percentage points less than average.

Everyday effect: The loading volume is moderate. For daily shopping, school bags, sports bags, or a weekend trip for two people, the cargo space is usually sufficient. However, with several large suitcases, bulky items, or regular transport of large loads, it can become tight.

The significant range between manufacturer and independent values also shows that the measurement method has an impact — for specific transport requirements, a practical test is recommended.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Dimensions of the Subaru XV 2021: 176.8 in length, 70.9 in width, 63.8 in height.

Compared to an average car: 3.1 in shorter (-1.7%), 2 in narrower (-2.7%), 2 in taller (+3.3%).
Compared to a typical parking space: The vehicle is 20.5 in shorter and 27.6 in narrower than a standard parking spot (information from the fact sheet).

Everyday effect: Shorter and narrower exterior dimensions make the XV particularly city- and parking-friendly. Easy parking maneuvers and use of tight parking spaces are advantages.

The greater height offers a typical SUV feeling (better overview, easier entry and exit) but can limit parking space options under low ceilings (underground garages).

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

Key points regarding usability:

Volume: With ~12.8 cu ft, the cargo space is compact; the usable shape/opening strongly influences everyday practicality.
Measurement deviations: Between 12 cu ft and 13.6 cu ft, different measurement methods apply — actual usability (loading floor, wheel arches, pass-through, loading lip height) is more decisive than the pure liter figure.
Everyday consequences: Suitable for shopping, children's sports equipment, and occasional luggage. For bulky items or longer vacations, carrying a roof box or folding down the rear seats (common in the segment) is recommended to significantly increase cargo space.

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Subaru XV (known as Crosstrek in some markets) is an established compact SUV/crossover and is appreciated for its robustness and everyday suitability.

Special Features / Characteristics: Typical for Subaru models are all-wheel drive and a distinctly practical, straightforward design. The height and ground clearance are SUV-typical, higher than those of a sedan or wagon.

Price-Performance Ratio: The XV often positions itself as a practical offering focusing on safety, reliability, and all-wheel-drive capabilities rather than luxury or maximum interior dimensions.

Those who value off-road capability and safety usually find a good balance here; those primarily seeking trunk space must make compromises or look into a larger segment.

Competitor Models: Comparable vehicles in the segment include Toyota C‑HR, Honda HR‑V, Mazda CX‑30, or VW T‑Roc. These competitors offer different focuses (more space, design, driving dynamics), so a comparison based on specific priorities (trunk, comfort, all-wheel drive) is worthwhile.
