Trunk dimensions Toyota Mirai

The Toyota Mirai 2017 offers a trunk with a volume of about 12.7 cu ft. When the rear seats are folded down, which however do not lie completely flat, the cargo space varies, limiting flexibility.

The rear bench is split 60:40, allowing some adaptability. The interior design is modern and functional, focusing on user-friendliness.

The trunk dimensions within the model range are relatively consistent, with the trunk shape supporting practical use. However, the loading edge is somewhat high, which can make loading and unloading more difficult.

Overall, the Mirai provides a solid, though not overly generous trunk design suitable for everyday use but not optimized for larger luggage.

Model Information

The Toyota Mirai is an innovative vehicle designed as a hydrogen fuel cell sedan. The latest series of the Mirai offers a combination of modern design, advanced technology, and environmentally friendly drive technology.

With an elegant exterior and a comfortable interior, the Mirai targets environmentally conscious drivers who value sustainability and performance. The latest generation of the Mirai is not only powerful but also equipped with numerous safety and assistance systems that enhance the driving experience.

Variants of the Same Series

The Toyota Mirai is offered exclusively as a sedan. There are no other variants such as convertible, hatchback, or wagon within this model range.

This distinguishes the Mirai from other Toyota models, which are often available in multiple body styles. The focus on the sedan allows Toyota to optimize the technology and design specifically for this vehicle class.

Yearly Differences

The first generation of the Toyota Mirai was introduced in 2014, while the latest generation came to market in 2020. During this time, there were significant changes regarding body dimensions and trunk volume.

The current generation is larger and offers more interior space, which also leads to improved trunk volume. Future model changes could bring further adjustments in these areas, but no specific changes are currently announced.

Direct Competition

In the same price range and size category, models like the Hyundai Nexo and the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell can be found. The Hyundai Nexo offers a trunk volume of about 16.3 cu ft, making it superior in this regard.

The Honda Clarity, on the other hand, has a trunk volume of around 14.4 cu ft. These differences show that the Mirai lags somewhat behind its competitors in trunk volume, which could be a decisive factor for buyers who need a lot of cargo space.

More Affordable Alternatives

More affordable models with similar trunk dimensions include the Toyota Corolla and the Hyundai i30. The Toyota Corolla offers a trunk volume of about 13.1 cu ft, while the Hyundai i30 reaches around 13.9 cu ft.

These vehicles are not only cheaper to purchase but also offer similar cargo capacity, making them attractive alternatives for buyers seeking good value for money.

Trunk Volume

The trunk volume is 11.3 cu ft (manufacturer specification). This is significantly below average: about -23.57% compared to an average car. Relative to the total vehicle volume (LxWxH/2), the trunk accounts for around 4.7%, which is -1.8 percentage points less than usual.

Impact in everyday use: For daily needs such as shopping bags or a sports bag, the volume is usually sufficient. Large or bulky loads (several large suitcases, furniture parts) are limited.

Information about the shape of the cargo area or foldable rear seats is not available and could further affect practical usability.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

The Mirai is 196.1 in long, 74.4 in wide, and 57.9 in high. Compared to the average car, it is 16.5 in longer (≈9.1%), 1.6 in wider (≈1.8%), and 3.5 in lower (≈-6%).

Compared to a standard parking space, the Mirai is 1.2 in shorter and 24.4 in narrower — meaning: standard parking spaces still offer room in width, but only a small reserve in length.

Practical consequences: In tight garages or very compact parking spots, you should pay attention to the length; the vehicle is overall longer than average, which can make maneuvering and parking in tight city areas less comfortable.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

The comparatively small trunk size (11.3 cu ft, -23.57%) means:

Everyday trips (shopping, stroller parts, sports equipment) are usually possible without problems.
For vacations with several large suitcases or bulky items, space is limited.
Whether the rear seat folds down or there are pass-through options is not evident from the data — this significantly affects flexibility.

In short: The trunk is practical for individuals or couples with normal luggage needs, but for frequent travelers with large cargo requirements, it is a limitation.

General Model Information

The following model information is certain from the available data:

Model: Toyota Mirai Sedan 2021 (ID: 776).

Recommendation: Those who value generous cargo volume should check the missing information on rear seat function and cargo space geometry for the Mirai or include comparison models with known larger trunks in their purchase decision.
