Trunk dimensions Toyota Corolla

The trunk of the 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback offers a volume of about 12.7 cu ft, which can be expanded to approximately 42.4 cu ft by folding down the rear seats. The rear bench is split 60:40, allowing flexibility when transporting larger items.

The interior design is functional, with a low loading edge that makes loading and unloading easier. The trunk dimensions vary slightly within the model range but generally remain compact and well usable. Typical features include a practical shape and good accessibility, which simplify everyday use.

Model Information

The Toyota Corolla is one of the best-selling cars worldwide and stands for reliability and efficiency. The latest series of the Corolla hatchback combines modern design with advanced technology.

With a fuel-efficient drivetrain and a variety of safety features, the Corolla hatchback is suitable for both city driving and longer trips. The interior offers comfort and user-friendliness, while the exterior lines are sporty and appealing.

Variants of the Same Series

The Toyota Corolla is available in various variants, including sedan, hatchback, and wagon. It is important not to confuse these models, as they have different body styles and characteristics.

While the sedan offers a classic look, the hatchback is sportier and more practical for everyday use. The wagon provides additional cargo space and is ideal for families or users who frequently transport larger loads.

Yearly Differences

Over the years, the Toyota Corolla has undergone several model changes that have affected the body dimensions and trunk volume.

In particular, models from 2019 onward feature improved aerodynamics and an optimized space concept. Previous generations tended to have smaller trunk volumes, which can be a decisive factor for buyers who value cargo space.

Direct Competition

In the same price class and size, the Toyota Corolla hatchback competes with models like the Volkswagen Golf and the Ford Focus.

The Golf offers a trunk volume of about 13.4 cu ft, while the Focus provides around 13.2 cu ft. These differences can be relevant for buyers who rely on cargo space, as the Corolla offers slightly less room in comparison.

More Affordable Alternatives

For buyers looking for more affordable alternatives with similar trunk dimensions, models like the Dacia Sandero or the Skoda Fabia are interesting.

The Sandero offers a trunk volume of about 11.6 cu ft, while the Fabia provides 13.4 cu ft. These vehicles are generally cheaper but may not offer the same equipment or comfort as the Corolla.

Trunk Volume

The trunk of the 2023 Toyota Corolla sedan offers 12.7 cu ft of usable volume (manufacturer specification). This is about -14.05% smaller than an average car. Relative to the total vehicle volume, the trunk accounts for around 6.4% — placing this share at the average level.

Everyday impact: For daily shopping, bags, and smaller luggage, the volume is generally sufficient. For larger transport tasks (several large suitcases, bulky items, or bigger shopping trips), the limitation compared to midsize wagons or larger sedans becomes apparent.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

The exterior dimensions of the 2023 Corolla sedan are 172 in in length, 70.5 in in width, and 56.7 in in height. Compared to an average car, it is 7.5 in shorter (-4.2%), 2.4 in narrower (-3.3%), and 5.1 in lower (-8.2%).

Practical consequences: The more compact dimensions improve maneuverability and parking behavior in the city. The fact that the Corolla is 24.8 in shorter and 28 in narrower than a standard parking space makes it clear that the vehicle fits well into urban parking spots and tight spaces.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

As a classic sedan trunk, the loading area is limited in length and accessibility by the rear hatch and rear bulkhead. The comparatively moderate volume of 12.7 cu ft means:

Suitability for everyday use: shopping bags, child equipment, a luggage combination for short trips.
Limitations with bulky or very long items: extensive furniture transports, large sports equipment, or many large suitcases require planning or possibly external help/trailers.
Flexibility strongly depends on seatback split/fold-through opening — these details are not included in the fact package; those who frequently transport long items should check this when inspecting the vehicle.

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Toyota Corolla is one of the most well-known series worldwide in the compact/midsize segment and is considered an established everyday car.

Special Features / Characteristics: Typical for the sedan variant are compact exterior dimensions and a practical interior. The model here stands out for its somewhat below-average trunk volume — in favor of an overall compact body.

Price-Performance Ratio: The Corolla series is often perceived as balanced regarding reliability, maintenance costs, and overall package. Specific prices or equipment details are not part of the fact package and should be checked with the dealer.

Competitor Models: Typical competitors in the segment are other compact sedans like the Honda Civic (sedan), Volkswagen Jetta, or Hyundai Elantra. These models sometimes offer larger trunk volumes or different space concepts — a comparison is worthwhile depending on priorities (cargo space vs. maneuverability).
