Trunk dimensions Mazda Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 2023 offers a trunk volume of about 17.9 cu ft with the rear seats upright and up to 57.2 cu ft with the seats folded down. The rear bench is split 40:20:40, allowing flexibility when transporting luggage. The interior is designed with quality, featuring a practical loading edge that facilitates access.

Trunk dimensions vary depending on the model and year, but the shape remains consistently functional and spacious. Typical features include good accessibility and well-thought-out storage options that enhance practicality.

Model Information

The Mazda CX-5 is a compact SUV that was first introduced in 2012. The latest series offers a combination of sporty design, advanced technology, and a high level of driving comfort.

With a focus on efficiency and driving dynamics, the CX-5 is suitable for both city traffic and longer trips. The equipment includes modern safety features, an intuitive infotainment system, and a high-quality interior that provides drivers with a pleasant experience.

Variants of the Same Line

The Mazda CX-5 is offered in various trim levels, including the base version, Sport, and Premium models. However, there are no sedan or convertible variants of the CX-5, as it is exclusively an SUV. Differences between the variants mainly lie in equipment and available engines, not in the body style.

Yearly Differences

The Mazda CX-5 has undergone several model changes over the years. The first generation was introduced in 2012 and updated in 2017, when the second generation was launched.

These changes affected both the body dimensions and trunk measurements, with the latest generation generally offering more space and improved space utilization. It is important to compare specific model years to understand the exact differences in dimensions.

Direct Competitors

In the same vehicle class, there are several comparable models, including the Volkswagen Tiguan, Ford Kuga, and Nissan Qashqai. For example, the Volkswagen Tiguan offers a trunk volume of about 18.4 cu ft, while the Ford Kuga provides slightly less space at around 16.8 cu ft.

The Nissan Qashqai, on the other hand, has a volume of around 15.2 cu ft. These differences can be decisive for buyers who value cargo space.

More Affordable Alternatives

For buyers looking for similar trunk volume but with a smaller budget, there are alternatives such as the Dacia Duster or the Skoda Kamiq.

The Dacia Duster offers a trunk volume of about 16.9 cu ft, while the Skoda Kamiq provides slightly less space at around 14.1 cu ft. These models are generally more affordable but may not offer the same equipment or driving dynamics as the Mazda CX-5.

Trunk Volume

The Mazda CX-5 (2026) offers a trunk volume of 20.6 cu ft (manufacturer specification). This is about 38.8% larger than an average car and accounts for approximately 7.9% of the total vehicle volume – 1.5 percentage points more than average.

Practical: This means noticeably more transport capacity in everyday use – enough space for a large weekly grocery shop, stroller, sports equipment, or several suitcases for weekend trips. For users who regularly transport luggage or shopping, the CX-5 thus offers a real comfort advantage over average passenger cars.

Vehicle Size and Parking Friendliness

Dimensions: 184.6 in length, 73.2 in width, 66.9 in height.

Compared to the average car, the CX-5 is 5.1 in longer (≈2.8%), 0.4 in wider (≈0.5%), and 5.1 in taller (≈8.4%). Compared to a standard parking space, however, it is 12.2 in shorter and 25.2 in narrower, allowing it to fit easily into standard parking spots.

Practical: The slightly larger exterior dimensions provide more interior space and road presence but do not cause significant parking restrictions. Tight underground garages with low clearance should be checked (height 66.9 in). Overall, the CX-5 is a good compromise between space and city/parking suitability.

Trunk Usability and Flexibility

The ratio of trunk volume to total volume shows that the trunk is efficiently used – more usable storage space relative to vehicle size than the average car. For everyday use, this means:

Everyday and family use: easy accommodation of groceries, stroller, or sports equipment.
Travel routine: comfortable amount of luggage for weekend or short vacation trips.
Practical flexibility: the increased base capacity reduces the need to frequently fold down the rear seats.

Note: Details on seat configuration or loading floor height are not included in the fact package and affect the actual handling of large or bulky items.

General Model Information

Familiarity: The Mazda CX-5 is an established model in the compact/mid-size SUV segment and is often perceived as a balanced all-rounder.

Special Features / Characteristics: From the available data, the advantageous trunk capacity and compact exterior dimensions relative to space offered stand out. Specific equipment or technical details are not part of the fact package.

Price-Performance Ratio: Based on the larger trunk and practical exterior dimensions, the CX-5 offers an attractive utility value for buyers who want a lot of cargo space without oversized exterior dimensions.

Competitors: Typical competing models in this vehicle class include Toyota RAV4, VW Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR‑V, and Ford Kuga. Compared to these, the CX-5 competes especially with its ratio of storage space to parking friendliness.
